  • Tubos? in the humi?

Just out of interest really... wondering what others do... I take sticks out of the tubes to store them in my humidors... didn't start doing it for any particular reason though it does take up slightly less space...

I know that the tubes are not air tight (though less air flow around the stick?) but is there any difference storing in the tube/out of the tube?.... over longer periods of time?...

I think the cigars are meant to be stored/aged in the tubes. From what I've read it slows the ageing process slightly, but is worth the results.

I tend to leave my sticks in the tubes in the humi. Also convenient if you're taking them out for the day etc

I've read the same thing in several archived posts from long-time members who unfortunately, no longer post much anymore.

As a side note, I've noticed that don TJ has quite a few cigars in tubes stored in his humidor.

        Nice question,
I was looking at those storing in tubes as fanatics, until I started to do so...

I like how they evolved, I think, it may be a personal and very subjective appreciation, the tubos / tubes concentrate the aromas and help in the aging process, so I store them in their original tubes, and sometimes even I place them in tubes to achive a more concentrated aroma.

I love them as a portable single humidor too, not all work for these, as with the continuous use they get lose and they dont seem to be as effective.

        Cheers.

I have some Upmann Magnum 46 Tubos (not yet removed from tubes) and some from a SLB... I think I may have to do some comparison

But is the humidity not going to affect tubes itself, ie - rust? And is it not gonna affect cigars in the humi?

I've never seen a rusty tube and always keep my old tubes for taking singles out with me. I'm lucky in that I have a separate case to store my tubos in. These come up on eBay now and again and are worth snapping up. It holds humidity really well.

Now, I'm no scientist, but as I understand it, aluminum does not rust - corrode maybe - but rust...no way!

Is that what you call a "Glass-Top" humidor box? (LOL)

That was my thought too but I wasn't absolutely sure that some manufacturer hadn't ever made a tubo from a ferrous metal.

Have always just shoved them in the humidor whilst in the tubes. If it ain't broke...

I don't have many tubos, but i tend to take them out and keep the tubos in another lock and lock box which i use to recharge dried out Boveda packs

I see no reason to take them out, is it worth buying or even producing tubos just to take the cigars out when you get home?
