Will my sticks be ok in that?

Hello you kind lot.

Since I want to start more of a collection rather than buying and smoking as I go, I bought some tupperware and Boveda packs. Could you tell me if this setup will be ok for about a week or two, till I get proper humidor?



I know it's nothing fancy, but got it all just this week... taking it steady, so Mrs can get used to regular spendings ....

Looks fine to me... if you can get your hands on some cedar sheets that would be an added on bonus...it helps main the humidity and I think it will give the box an nice aroma.

I personally would changed the boveda to 69...but its all personal preference.

It should be fine Tom. I have a similar set up for storing my excess cigars when my humidor is full (and I did this based on advice on here). As Shamz says, If you have any spare sheets of Cedar (from cigar boxes), it doesn't do any harm putting some of them in too.

I will put 69's to the humidor as am getting ready for a bit of online shopping . 72 was only thing I could get my hands on at the time of purchase.

I have box after Charatan Corona with two trays in it. Should I break one and put in or save them?

It's up to you really. They will be relatively okay either way. If you're making more purchases soon you could always ask your cigar merchant if he has any spare sheets. They ought to give you some free of charge with your order I would hope.

Hi Tom, I've found that 69% Bovendas in my humidor hold an RH of between 64-67, (depending on how full it is and the season) which seems perfect for what I've smoked so far. Given that tupperdors are ultra efficient compared to a humidor, you may want to trade down to lower Boveda packs in the future. Or not, depending on how you like your cigars!

Wish my wife could get used to regular spending
in your situation what I would do is get another Tupperware with a 69% boveda and put some of the same brand cigars in there
leave to rest for a month or two since your collecting rather than smoking and try one at 72% next day the one at 69%
that way you should have an idea what 's the best humidity that suits you, and get a hygrometer a few members including myself have the calibre 1V
digital one which gives you a reading on the temperature as well.

I think this will be fine, I also wouldn't ruin any boxes you have to get cedar sheets out it really isn't worth it

I may be wrong, but with Boveda the level in tupperdors doesn't drop like it does in humidors (so a 72 in a tupperdor will hold 72, whereas it would hold around 70 in a humi), so I would say it is worth at least trying to get a 69 as 72 is probably a bit too high

I always aim for 65 - I find the cigars have a much better draw and less burning issues at that level, but you will eventually decide where to settle

And you can pick up a cheap hygrometer for about three quid on Amazon that will serve fine in a tupperdor

The amount of good info is just great here, once again thank you all for input.

I did a little search on the fleabay and amazon and know what I will order after work Will go for 65 bovedas as this now seems obvious that a little dryer sticks will smoke better .

Now there is another thing I'd like to ask. Should i remove cellophane off the sticks or leave it on?

Is mixing of aromas of different sticks in same box something to worry about? How do you all deal with it?

Speaking of collecting, how long realistically cigars would be in good condition, given good storage etc?

And one more thing - I planned to spend about 120 quid for humidor,, that is up and running. Would you do that or just keep them in plastic and get some more sticks instead?

With regards to your humidor, I recently purchased this one and it is a really nice finish and good quality for the price.

My advice though is go bigger than you think you'll need, I had a 50ct and soon filled that up and now I'm on 100ct and that's filling up too.

Hey tom...regarding the boveda I would do what TonyN said...try out different % to see what you like...I still haven't done this...been very lazy so got 69% in them and they tend to be about 67%

I personally keep the plastic on...we have a lot of people who take them off again it's up to you..some like it off as it looks nicer. I really don't know if there is any benefit keeping them on or off.. same with Tubos..only thing I can think of is the cigars are safer with them on.

Regarding mixing...as long as there's no flavours smokes, mixing is fine...some people don't like NC with CC mixed. i keep my small NC stash sperate now if they are naked.

You will find you your temptation will give in before you can keep your cigars safe for a long time... I do lol...but I don't know the answer to that...but there are cigars from the 60s and 70s that people buy...have no idea if them smoke them..or just collect them..I think 10 years on a cigar is good enough...but I'm relatively inexperienced in that department.

Aim for the biggest humi you can get as it will quickly get filled up.

There is a theory that cigars age slower but better in tubos (and similarly in cellophane I imagine), there have been numerous discussions about this and no general consensus but I always come down to the opinion that why sell/buy them with cellophane and tubos (the tubos add to the price in particular) if you're not going to use it
