Tom I see your thinking of getting a humidor roughly ?120 make sure it's bigger than what you need
We have all been there myself included we set our mind on a particular humidor for the looks , but not thinking at the time of the size
before you know it the humidor is nearly full and you'll be looking for another humidor.

I would definitely keep Tubos in the tubes. As for cellophane I'd probably remove as I don't like the look of it. I imagine most of the benefits of Tubos are from the cedar lining anyway.

To your other point, if you're happy to just use the Tupperware, I'd spend the extra money on sticks to be honest. You can keep upsizing with Tupperware/scuba boxes for cheap.

FYI - the hygrometer I bought is below - was cheap and seems to be doing the job nicely:

My opinion is the same as Sheppsea's. If the manufacturer has bothered to go to the expense of putting the cigars in cello on the cigars then leave it on. The cello is permeable so it won't affect any ageing. I've only recently started using tupperdors when my two humi filled up. I think they're bloody fantastic. About to buy a decent sized one for boxes to go in. The humidity is spot on .

This is a great thread (Thanks, Tom Major) and I'm learning so much from all the above posters.

Now, if you will permit me to dip my neophyte toe into the debate, one of the first things I learned about this simple plastic packaging (aside from removing it before lighting - CLICK HERE!), is that it's great for protecting cigars against wear and tear.

Say, you're on the go and only have time to grab a few cigars and make the bus in seconds flat, the cellophane wrapper will protect them from tearing as you hurriedly stuff them in your shirt next to your pocket protector.

Beyond that, I had no idea how much consideration and thought goes into the cellophane on-or-off debate, i.e., appearance, protection, and aging.

As for me, I choose to leave it on for the reason stated above....but then again, I'm new to this debate.

You could if you also want to clip the end of the celo off, but not removing it. It gives more air flow, yet the length of the cigar remains protected.

You know, some manufacturers even go as far as manufacturing Macanudo, Guantanamera or Henri Winterman's, but that doesn't really make me want to smoke that stuff :P ...

That is very good point! I was considering at least 100ct, for I don't really fancy getting new one every few weeks . Thanks to this forum I discovered watch winders website and wanted to get one from them for about 65 posted, but then again I'd need hygrometer, seasoning packs and standard bovedas, so 120 quid was sort of top price for purchase of first box.

To your other point, if you're happy to just use the Tupperware, I'd spend the extra money on sticks to be honest. You can keep upsizing with Tupperware/scuba boxes for cheap.
I am still not sure, cause from one side I'd like to keep collection in adequate fashion, but other side - more sticks... Still have some time before next salary comes, so will have to think seriously about that. I think I'd need to get at least two of each stick, cause I got few singles like Shadow Ghost or Rocky Patel Juniors and am not really keen on smoking them - I won't have any left if I do .

With regards to your humidor, I recently purchased this one and it is a really nice finish and good quality for the price.
That looks exactly like the one I tracked down, and price is about same too .

Wish my wife could get used to regular spending
in your situation what I would do is get another Tupperware with a 69% boveda and put some of the same brand cigars in there
leave to rest for a month or two since your collecting rather than smoking and try one at 72% next day the one at 69%
that way you should have an idea what 's the best humidity that suits you, and get a hygrometer a few members including myself have the calibre 1V
digital one which gives you a reading on the temperature as well.
Oh I bet it will take her some time to get used to that. We all know females have somewhat strange way of seeing things ... For her all cigars stink and taste the same, so she won't understand .

                Good idea with another box.

Sorry for replying so late, but I just finished work. Once again - many thanks to all posters, you're fantastic.

So heres the rub. Humis are great. And ideal for storing singles- box splits, trades, a few of this a few of that. There are some who then evolve to have a different humi for each brand.... Or a cuban and noncuban humi, a custom rolled humi, a quick smokes humi, a 'special occassions' humi!

Now then.... After a while you'll have figured out some favourites, then buy a box, then more boxes follow i promise!, particularly as you travel and find them at advantageous prices. Thats when bigger tupperware and locknlock boxes come into play. Then the scuba boxes and wineador options open up as your boxes mount up!

So my admission.... 3 humis... One for custom rolled, one thats mostly partagas singles, and then one thats a bunch of other cuban singles. I then have a bunch of locknlock boxes! Thats one humi and a bunch of locknlock boxes more than i ever thought i would own!!!!!

                  enjoy!

Does separating cubans and non cubans serve any purpose? Or will they be ok in one humi?

In the main NC's have a distinctly different aroma.... A box of NC's is a richer stronger scent. Its almost more honeyed. If you are storing large numbers, then separating makes sense. I kept some 3-5 dominican customs in with c40 cubans for years to no ill effects.

hang around, post regularly and be an active member. And once you get past a certain point you get PM's and to see the area where people trade, split boxes n stuff.... Thats when the tobacco acquisition disorder gets real!!! Lol!

Since I want to start more of a collection rather than buying and smoking as I go, I bought some tupperware and Boveda packs. Could you tell me if this setup will be ok for about a week or two, till I get proper humidor?

I know it's nothing fancy, but got it all just this week... taking it steady, so Mrs can get used to regular spendings ....

                                Cheers

Just curious Tom who is the collection going to, if your collecting rather than smoking.
Or will you carry on collecting till you have a few hundred then start sparking up and enjoying the smokes.
