• Cigar Bands and age dating

Hey guys..I was just on a website and was looking at the Montecristo bands and how they've changed over the years.

Once thing i noticed was the dates. Basically I was given a 5 Box of Monte No3 as a present.. and as the 5 box wouldn't have a serial or box date I was just assuming it would be a 2015 box.

However the band looks like Band C in the picture.. Would that mean the cigar would be at least aged of 2012? or is it more likely they had a load of left over old bands where using them till they are done.

I'm sure that what it would be, but thought i'd ping the question to you formative fellas.

Wouldn't it be good if the dates were on the bands ?

For some nc's I have seen dated bands and it would be a massive help.

However "Cuba being Cuba" will probably mean that they're unlikely to adopt this which is, IMO, a shame.

It still wouldnt stop people putting new cigars in old bands/boxes. But it would help to keep track of your singles.

I would assume they are at least 2012, but if you were to trade:sell on I would make clear that assumption is based on the band. Either way it does suggest a few years on it though

I've had this not long ago with some Punch Punch... older style bands (-2009) on singles which I am pretty certain are younger than that... I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that they were indeed younger sticks and older bands being used up...

dated bands would be a nice idea to my mind as it would let me see the date of sticks in my humidor... it'd save me writing in miniscule digits on the edge of the bands

That is what i was thinking.... I was carrying out a dating exercise the other day. I bought a load of sticky dots, annoyingly the dots were two big for some bands i had to chop them in half wrote the date on it and placed it at the back of the band..Hopefully the dots sticks and don't come off in the humi

if it helps I use a very fine drawing pen (I use a rotring one) and write very small on the band itself...

Actually thinking about it...I bought some Petit Edmundo from smokeyjoe recently and I'm sure they were from 2014 and they had the normal embossed white logo...so they must be using the old bands till they run out.

There isn't usually a very defined date that bands stop being used but it usually dates them to within six months of the discontinued date so these are probably from mid 2013 at the latest. 2-5 years on cardboard packs of not major seller isn't much of a supprise.

Ive used these in the past http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/p...nk+Cigar+Bands but I was too lazy to keep it up

Just looked at my singles all purchased in the last month, none have the newer band.
