does anyone know if this will affect Cigars ?

Plain packaging rules for tobacco will be introduced on Friday after a legal challenge against the new law was dismissed by the High Court.

From looking at it just looks like cigarettes are effected only...but I'm sure this will be the start to look at other products.

So it's not likely to be as easy as a plain outer box then?

I think that could become an issue in the cigar makers' defence

There was previously a decision to exclude cigars from this, and from the UK side I don't think there will be a push to include cigar as the number is so small and the health problem are more tied to cigarettes. Why bother excluding something now and then bring it in later to more uproar and legal challenges?

I believe there is an EU directive on plain packaging now as well though, so assuming we're in the EU still after June that may affect it

I do really despise plain packaging, it just feels too far; people know the health problems linked to smoking and should be able to make their own decision rather than have the governments force something on you. There is also no evidence that it actually makes any difference, from what I have read statistics show cigarette sales went up in Australia!

Just heard on the radio plain cigarette packets start today so when old stock has finished plain packets will be on the shelves.
I suppose when they get bored they will start on cigar boxes.

I saw shisha tobacco is exempt...hopefully this will lead to Cigars follow suit..especially as they aren't sold by every supermarket newsagent, corner shop etc.

Cigars are already exempt from the UK regs, not sure on the upcoming EU ones
