I have an itch for a Siglo VI Gran Reserva, since scratching the itch will cost me considerably, I'm after somebody to tell me that its really not worth the time or money.....please......

Siglo VI Gran Reserva - Worth trying to source one?

I've never tried the Sig VI GR but an aged VI is a fantastic smoke so I can only GR would be superb. Whether it's value for money I wouldn't know, I may just be tempted to buy a few aged VI's instead but that's not going to soothe your itch I fear.
Im sure there will be someone here who has the experience you're looking for and hopefully they'll chime in.It's not the arrow, it's the Indian !

Hi anz
I?ve only ever tried one (and that was a while ago).
It impressed me enough at the time to get a couple more for special occasions, but, to be honest (as I?m too tight to ever replace them), I?m still waiting for a suitable excuse to revisit.
For what it?s worth, I agree with RDBM.
Cohiba generally seems to be a brand that needs age in order for its subtleties to shine.. smoked young, a lot of the nuanced flavours (the vanilla bean and honey etc) tend to get lost in the mix.
Being the ?flagship? brand for Habanos doesn?t help either IMO, the high demand and turnover means it?s not always easy to source well aged stock, and I suspect that?s part of the reason why the Grand Reserva range was such a success.
Rather like the new ?A?ejados? line, the key selling point was the use of pre-aged leaves (five years).
Therefore.. if you can lay hands on a Siglo VI from around 2003 you?re going to have something with a very similar flavour profile. It?ll give you a better idea of whether or not the premium version is worth paying the extra for.
Love to hear how you get on either way.
Cheers

This has definitely stirred my interest. Cohiba in general is one I have not tried much of, and never a Siglo VI.
I think I need to put one to the top of the list.

Thanks for the replies, the Siglo VI is already my favourite stick, I have a couple or 3 that've been around a while, 2009 I think, so the Gran Reserva in one sense, seems like a logical progression.....or is it, can it really be so much better than an aged VI.

A sig vi is a delight for sure of which I'm lucky to have a fair collection of aged stock .
However I would stick with aged vi s , another large stick I'd recommend is an upmann Mag 50 gorgeous cigar an aged one gives a VI a run for its money imo

Ultimately it's all down to personal preference, but I quite like the V's (I'm a fan of thinner ring guage cigars).
I'd suggest trying a sampler before committing to a box though.

I have to agree, they're selling for silly money these days.. and if truth be told, in a blind taste test I'm not convinced I could tell which was which.
Maybe the lesson is to buy regular production stock and learn some patience.. lol.Originally posted by DRAGMASTEREvery time I sleep with a girl I smoke a cigar while we do it. It's exciting and makes you feel strong, manly and empowered.
