  • How many is enough...?

The acquisition disorder is strong in us!

With my recent splurge I reckon i've hit my limit for a while... but its made me think, how many sticks is 'enough'?!

The American heavy facebook groups have no end of pictures of whole collections laid out on lounge floors, in orderly rows of single sticks by the hundred.... And even when many of their domestic smokes are cheaper than our beloved CC's, there is a lot of loose change on show, with no hint or chance of plausible deniability!!

Cheeky ten boxes are my weakness....a few to try, a few to trade and a few to age.... Is the handy mantra i convince myself with!!!

Have you set yourself a limit? A target? A big smoky wishlist? Or is it just about storage space, money, and what you can slip past the bank manager/ boss?

How many is enough? Is this an April Fool? Shouldn't be done after midday you know Emaresee Indeed it is easier to collect than for most of us to find the time to smoke them. I have finally agreed with the wife & now think I have enough. But after yrs of buying it's not going to be easy to stop so I have told her that if I find some cigars I can't resist adding to the collection, I will sell some of my stock to recover the money spent. I have just done this to pay for 3 Davidoffs that I bought recently & it hurt! I had to sell 25 mixed sticks to cover 3 Cuban Davidoffs that I have bought to celebrate our 25th this August. Once you have collected over the yrs, you really don't want to let any go. I am expecting mine to last into my retirement when I won't be able to afford singles by then.
Most of us are limited by our wallets & our wives patience, & for most of us both are rather thin. If you want to age boxes, you have to have suficient to smoke whilst they are aging. If you smoke a dozen a week, that's a lot of stock. I only smoke 2-3 on average so I manage to have a 25 cab of Epi No2's from 2004, that I am just finishing now. My next cab is from 2008, I'll be starting that this summer & it should last me 6-8yrs. So by the time that's coming to an end I'll be smoking 15yr old sticks. I had my last 2001 at Christmas & it was a delight. I also have 50 cabs of PLPC Oct 2006 & Apr 2013, RASS Sep 2006 & ERDM CS Apr & Sep 2005. I didn't expect them to last this long 5-10yrs would have been fine but as my collection increases the rotation gets longer & often I don't smoke the same cigar twice in a year & that's probably another good sign you have more than enough!

Great response @ Simon Bolivar.... Interesting read, and a study in planning and restraint! Thank you! 50 cabs... Glorious stuff!

Winston Churchill had 3000 cigars at Chartwell and one of our members has around the same as him, except he is still buying!

And when you walk into a UK tobacconist and realise that you have more stock you probably have enough!

                  I didn't think 'enough' existed.

Much like having 'enough' money, as long as you are living/smoking/collecting within your means don't worry. If you are spending or smoking more than your finances or health can afford then I consider that to be 'enough'

SBs collection sounds fantastic. Because I can't smoke at home - or even in the garden - I only have perhaps one per week. I'm trying to put together a range that will creep up in number so that I'm always playing catch up. Hope to retire in 6 years so id like a treasure chest for those weekly luxury moments

This is a question that I have avoided asking myself. I have been going over budget every month since the beginning of the year. I have a want list and purchase a couple of boxes from it every month, some for smoking over the next few months and around 75% to lay away. The problem is that I often get the opportunity to purchase stuff that isn't on the list or taste something that I like and add it to the list. Plus there are limitadas and regional releases that I pull the trigger on when the price is right and the opportunity presents itself and future releases that I would like to acquire (yes, I'm a two band whore). I guess that I'll stop buying (or at least reduce my purchases drastically) once I have run out of space.
