No shaun but my cigar was cut by one of the guns where I beat with a v cutter, to me the draw was no different than if it was straight cut.

There's no right or wrong way of cutting a cigar all down to individual cigar smokers what they happy with.

I've been going off smoking recently. A great deal.
However, the last four I have smoked I have v-cut.
              What a world of difference!
It's renewed my love of the leaf again and made me actually want to smoke

Can't see how the shape of a cut can want you to start smoking again
but glad to hear your carrying on with this great hobby.

That was the only variable that changed - everything else was the same.
I'm guessing it's something to do with the draw, or airflow.
Whatever it was, they tasted great - something that hasn't happened for me in a long time.

Could do with resurrecting this thread because my Xikar xi2 has disappeared in the house since Saturday so I need a reasonably good but cheap temporary replacement until it turns up. Has anyone tried the Credo Scissors? They're available for about a fiver a look half decent. Alternatively I could just buy a decent V cutter then when I find my Xikar I will have a choice of cuts, are the Palio or Colibri the best?

I can only vouch for the Colibri and find it cuts very well.

From what I've seen the Xikar seems to cut a wider, shallower groove. I don't think Palio make a v-cutter.

I must have imagined seeing a Palio V Cutter. In that case a cheap double guillotine or a Colibri V cutter seems like the choice I need to make.

At home I have one of the big Sautter desktop cutters, when out with the dog usually I just pick up a straight edge cutter. I must try a v cut though, suspect it would work better on some of the smaller ring gauge cigars that I have.

I have a single blade, and a double blade guillotine (well, lots of them, freebies mostly). I prefer a really sharp single blade as there seems to be less chance of a tearing action when the blades meet. The single blade needs an assertive movement to avoid squashing though.

I have a shallow cut V cutter that I use intermittently with no particular reasoning behind, but which seems to be a good middle ground between punching and straight cutting in order to avoid a wind tunnel.

I have a Swiss army knife cigar tool which looks a bit like a single bladed lopper (only penknife sized). It's the most expensive cutter I own, as it was an excited impulse purchase at LCDH Amsterdam. As it's very low profile and open, you can really judge your cuts accurately, and sharpen it to a decree and angle you like.

Finally I have a sort of bolt action punch on the bottom of my big lighter that's pretty effective and my preference for anything of 50rg or larger, or looks like it might unravel. It's quite a good first port of call as you can always cut after, if the draw or tarry build up is troubling, but naturally not the other way.
