• Desktop humidor and Cigar box

Hey guys...

I recently bought my first box of Cigars... I ended putting it in my 50 count desktop humidor as I had space and only had the one boveda pack and a normal humidifier. Before the rh would normal hover between 68-71% depending on the temp.

In the past week it's hovering between 62-65% i just pulled the humidifier out and it was bone dry..so I'm assuming the wood from the box is sucking the moisture.

Question is should I just take out the box from the humi? Or do you think buying another boveda pack or 2 should fix the rh issue?

All wood will suck up moisture Sham which is why Boveda advise you to use a higher % sachet than you actually want, ie if you're aiming for 65% buy the 69% and so on. Use the exact one in a plastic container.

The box will suck up some... 1 boveda for 25 smokes, roughly!

I'd definately consider putting another Boveda in there.

How old is your current Boveda?

I think another Boveda would be sufficient SHAMZ84
Try not to get too worried about the humidity, it can make you a little paranoid!
I would never be bothered if my humidity moved around a little. As a rule of thumb, low 60's to high 60's would be fine. I don't think your smokes will spoil within that sort of range.
There is so much confusion & / or discussion around! You'll find your own ideal point, whether you like a dryer smoke or slightly 'wetter'..

Cheers guys wayne_w i was thinking that..
nubchugger its around 2 months old but still seems quite moist.
PeeJay o OK....didn't know that... I suppose I should read there site for more info.

So its OK if I leave the box in and just add more pouches?

I'd be thinking of replacing it with fresh, but as already said, nothing to worry about.
you definately need another boveda in there tho👍

I used to check mine all the time, lol, you do get paranoid i have managed to get my obsession with checking Rh down to once a day but it's a struggle 😂😂
Boveda definately the way mate.👍

i was just looking for a post about recharging them so you have 2 in your himi and 2 on charge, and you just rotate them every couple of months but cant find it using crapatalk.

Yes Shamz84
you do become paranoid about the humidity today when I came in from work mine was reading 62% and
trust me I was think something was wrong but after a hour or so it went back up to 65%
i have 69% bolvida pack so 65% seems good to me.i still am at the paranoid stage were I look at the humidity about 15 times a day I guess it's all in the fun off the cigar game.

Just wait until the weather starts to improve...Temperature will affect humidity too!!
Time to grow your nails nice & long, so that you can chew them worrying about the fluctuations...

As long as you can keep the humidity within the 60's you'll be fine. I believe that some of the serious collectors will keep theirs in the high 50's for ageing purposes, I'm sure that i've read that the American smokers like to keep theirs in the high 60's / mid 70's!!

Before i joined the forum I thought Jesus I'm getting a bit sad and obsessive always checking the humidity..like anything is gonna change when I come home and by them time I've had dinner. Now I kinda feel normal [emoji2]
nubchugger. That's correct...I tried the trick on one of the small ones I had from a online order and worked a treat here the orginal post

Start shopping now for a wine cooler, you'll need the space anyway

Need to plant the seed in the wifes head first...already hinted at the idea the Cigars could be worth a fortune if looked after properly in many years to come. [emoji15]
