hey guys i just landed my first humidor and am ridiculously excited the only problem is i don't have enough cigars though i am sure this will soon change. would you say it is best to buy boxes of cigars like 10s or have a wide variety of different ones. i am new to cigars so i guess I'm asking do you just smoke the same ones all the time or do you change depending on your mood. I'm still trying different ones pretty much always cuban though. love rnj no2

I'd go with what ranks said buy single ones from different brands to see which you like
start with corona and then maybe move upto robusto sized ones
only then can you decide wether to buy in boxes.
Anything you are not quite sure about just ask away we have all been in the same situation as you.

Welcome newbie, +1 what ranks says, so many out there sample packs the way to go, Cigars can be expensive to buy in box's then find you don't like that particular brand, (mind you, you could always buy them not like them and pass them out to your fellow forum members...)
Once again welcome Newbie, and enjoy your journey...

I agree with ranks, try as many as you can, and buy multiples of the ones you like.
Your pallet will develop the more you smoke.
When you have found some you really like, then get a box.
There are some good reviews on here, so read the reviews and if you like the sound of them buy a couple to try. Just keep trying.
If you like RyJ #2 (you'll never go wrong with RyJ!!) try a Partagas D4, it's a fantastic smoke.
There are some fantastic NCs out there too, like the Oliva serie V
It will be suprising how quickly your collection grows.

wow can't believe how friendly you are. iv been reading this site for a while but didn't feel i knew enough to even ask questions if that makes any sense. right ye i tried the D4 but i thought it was to heavy of a taste that as why i liked RyJ because they are so light. cool though looks like singles are the way forward

Hi newbie....I was in a similar situation not so long ago....but wouldn't be too worried about your humidor being empty....it will fill up very quickly
For mild cigar.... One I thought was nice was an red inka from cgars... And the RyJ Petit Coronas..

Welcome newbie! Head over to the newbie section and give us a bit of an intro, it's good to hear a little about all the members.
Firstly, use the search button to research and make sure you season the humidor, there'll be some conflicting info on how to do it but they all involve increasing the moisture (I found a spray bottle with solution lightly, close and wait 24 hours and then spray again is the quickest method)
Secondly, go for the samples and corona size at the moment and work your way up, they're reasonably priced and you don't want to have to smoke a large cigar and persevere, your pallet will change to love the larger and smaller smokes, as will your patience!
A few milder brands:
H.Upmann
Hoyo de Monterrey
Quay d'Orsay
Romeo Y Julieta
And for non Cubans lots of the Honduran cigars are pretty mild.
