...buy some cheaper cigars to share with those who come out of the woodwork at Christmas?
Those who usually smoke cigarettes but will want a cigar seeing as I'm smoking one?
Those who don't smoke at all, but will, as above, want a cigar if I'm smoking one?

    Not at all.
It's just the same as my mate when we are fishing.
They just don't get it, or appreciate it. It's just a smoke that will probably get flung well before it is finished
or left on the worktop with the cans that are half full.

It's a tricky one, I think the mere fact you are proposing to offer a handmade Cuban as per your picture (of any kind) is gesture enough.

Considering a cheaper smoke may not taste as good as a nice Cohiba, boli, parti etc makes you think "would they enjoy a premium smoke" or will it still taste like old mans hands and get flung?

I tend to offer aristocrates or a Quintero of some domination... But even then, mine have all been aged for at least two years so when someone says "that's disgusting" it's not like we can save for another occasion or put it back in the bottle.

Someone asked me last year if they could have a Cohiba, and stop being stingy - my response was "if you smoke the whole thing, properly with panache, be my guest" if you put it out you owe me ?30!

Sorry, pretty sure that doesn't help!

I would say definately not wrong of you at all, if someone is a Brother(BOTL) smoker then by all means offer something a little more special, but the non smokers and cigarette smokers that won't appreciate what they are holding or won't know how to smoke a cigar then it's just got to be the cheaper selection......and then wait for the lung to appear 😂😂😂😂

I've got some Guantanamara Crstals someome bought me back from Cuba that get offered to "occasional cigar smokers". I say these are milder if you don't smoke cigars regularly. God knows whay I'll do when there are gone, only 2 left. I suppose I'll have to find an alternative.

Absolutely nothing wrong with saving your best stuff for yourself or other BOTLs.

In the past I've made a compromise to be somewhere in the middle by buying smaller, cheaper NCs which I also like so that I can enjoy smoking the same thing I give to my guests. Don Ramos No 3 or PCs are a favourite of mine for that. Both are a surprisingly good smoke, and smoking the same thing means my guests don't realise they're not getting the good stuff...

I agree. There's nothing more depressing than giving a nice stick to someone and watching it go to waste. I once gave a Monte Sublimes to 'a friend' for a wedding and watched in horror as he smoked about one inch and ditched it. He was promptly told that he would never get another cigar from me and not to ask...

I quile enjoy a JLP. So i would feel at home round yours being offered one of those.

The fact your offering anything at all is generous.

Aye, echoing others here, nothing wrong with it at all. Back in September at weekend away, I bought a few sticks for friends that had shown interest in cigars. 2 of them put the sticks out before they'd got close to finishing, another left me with his half smoked whilst looking for beer. Fortunately they'd agreed to pay for them upfront.

Now, unless they've got the time to take and the willingness to make the effort to appreciate, I'd not hesitate to handout a cheaper stick.

As VTG says, I quite enjoy those cigars... Have 3 left from my Cuba haul and they make a good short smoke!

I wasted a few nice cigars on people that don't appreciate them. Never again... 😀

Definately nothing wrong with that, chinchaleros are my go to for sharing or smoking when too drunk to taste/remember. They are light and cheap enough that it doesn't really matter if they get wasted. Plenty of vitolas for different occasions.

i once smoked a Bolivar petit corona whist smashed and couldn't remember a thing about it when I woke up, I was gutted. So now if I go out drinking it's cheap smokes only.
