  • Don't get caught out!

    Evening all,

I was given a cigar by a work colleague today, that one of his family members had bought back from a recent holiday in Cuba..
Without being rude, I could tell straight away that it was fake! ( especially as I had a genuine one to smoke last night! )

    Onto the pics..

    IMG_5332.jpg IMG_5335.jpgIMG_5336.jpg

To the untrained eye it looks very convincing. However, if you look closely at the band, you will notice the imperfections..
It felt very well filled but, on a cold draw, it was very loose!
There was no aroma at all from the cigar either.
I cut it in half to show the standard of the filling & leaves etc.
In the interests of research I thought I would smoke the remaining half
It lit quite quickly, a lot quicker than normal. It tasted very bitter & harsh, so much so, that I binned it after 3 draws. The harshness though, lasted for a while after!

It's from my time on here that I have learned about this kind of thing. I can't thank the forum members enough for my education & hopefully I can pass that onto the newer lads that have joined.
For someone with an interest in cigars, something like this could put them off! Due to the harshness & very poor taste. However a cheap box of cigars may seem while on holiday, Please don't be tempted!
Always buy from a reputable source, if in Cuba a LCDH store.

Thanks for this, i'm very new at this so this info is invaluable

Having been to Cuba i know it's very easy to get suckered by the offer of 'cheap cigars' by the lifeguard on the beach. Thankfully i said no and bought from the hotel shop.

I can't thank the lads on the forum enough for their help & guidance.
We all started out somewhere but, hopefully this will help to prevent someone from wasting a few quid that could be spent on something genuine!

And also, to add, what a shame for those that do get caught out!

It certainly is, but so easily done.

We litteraly set foot on the beach and the lifeguard was walking with us talking about cigars, next minute he says he can get us a box of 25 Montys for 40 CUC, (180cuc in the shops)

The only way to be sure is to pay a bit more and buy in the store, compared to here its dirt cheap for the genuine anyway,

            Eg. I smoked Party E2, they were ?6.90. 💨💨💨💨

Yup- everywhere we went there were offers. And in my mind their is no risk, its just downside, maybe you strike it lucky and get a stolen one but a whole box? Naaaa - fakes! As you said, a p2 for ?6? I will take that any day!!

What a bout if it was a real Cohiba , probably rolled by a drunk or very tired roller, you just shredded a nice Cuban stick in to pieces!

The real clue was 'no aroma' Golden hands. I have had some good & some not so good Cohibas but they all smelled great.

You missed the point simon, but I forgive you. I know it is not your fault that Belgium's do not understand what humour mean.

Ha, now you are making jokes, think you'd have trouble passing me off as a Belgian, I have merely resided there for 25yrs. Yes I guessed your's was a joke with the smiley face & all but I was keeping in line with the thread as a whole, on how to tell fakes ect. Anyway no offence meant or taken

Belgian you are or not is a matter of a different discussion, being in a good spirit and mind always welcomed
