How do you choose what to smoke?
For me, I used to look through a spreadsheet, looking at what I'd smoked before, carefully looking at what everything cost and what to smoke bearing in mind all sorts of factors.
Then I'd conscientiously type up the results afterwards (with about 20 columns).
However, I've realised that's all bollocks.
My new method involves - go to humi, pick stick I like look of. Pick second stick just in case.
Smoke first stick. If I like it smoke it. If I don't like it, move on.
Have started a much simplified spreadsheet, with stick, date, score out of 10 and comments.
I've realised that I smoke so little that price per stick is nowhere near as relevant as I thought it was. I've smoked some expensive sticks (Sig VI) that have been toss and some cheap sticks that have been utterly amazing (FDC Selectos)
I'm that blummin fickle with sticks these days, I'm just gonna smoke stuff and think a whole lot less about it

My primary factors are available time and then what I fancy really. I'm a simple thing

I've given up with the how much time available, to a degree - If I want a toro, but only have an hour, I'll smoke it and ditch the rest.
The only real exception are giant two hour plus sticks - which I'll save for herfs.
That's one of the reasons I've stopped buying bigger sticks - cos they'll just stay in my humis forever...

Time available, mood, whether I want to try something new or go with an old faithful smoke, what drink to pair with it. All these rolled into one ideally

I've no dramas about ditching a bigger stick before the end, but I just don't adopt that as I prefer to get the full development/progression. Edit: Apart from the H Upmann 3/4 Corona End of edit. However, if the cigar is not to my liking it's sayonara baby.

All my longer smokes are sat too, waiting for the appropriate or adequate time. I've still got your COTM and I suspect I'll have this month's for a while

Yeah I'm method 2. Probably time and how I feel is a big consideration.

There's very little to it. I might have decided already because I thought about it. Otherwise I grab whatever I like. No lists or notes. My record is in the "what are you smoking today?" Threads [emoji74]

Have to say I've been caught in the, decided what to smoke before opening humi then completely changed my mind when I got there scenario, but other than that I don't really give it much thought. 90% of what I have, I know I'm going to like the other 10% is probably something new so can be hit or miss but worth trying all the same. The worst thing is really looking forward to a certain cigar and it turns out to be a dud !!!!

For me it depends on mood, time, what I'm doing (walking the dog, sitting down outside and having some 'me' time).

Sometimes my OCD means I have a couple to finish in a box so that I can free some space up in the humidor.

I just have a nosey and then pick whatever takes my fancy.

For the guys that smoke pipes as well, do you just know when you fancy one over the other?

'Nosey' and 'pick' in the same sentence, not a good image
