• cigars had a very tight draw-adivce pls

Hi,
I had some montecristo no.5 cigars and some Romeo and Juliet no3 cigars had a very tight draw when I smoked them. Am I doing something wrong?

My humidor was seasoned right and the humility in my humi's is 67%/68% I use boveda packs.

Am I doing something wrong?

My local cigar shop told me that all 42 Ring Gauge could have a very tight draw. And small cigars like the montecristo no.5 have tight draws as well.

Not heard that before. How did the cigars feel? Hard or soft.

No the cigars with were not hard or soft. They looked heathly.

A careful jab up the bottom with a tooth pick or similar will help your draw. You could also pop one in the fridge for an hour beforehand.

You're doing nothing wrong but some tight draws are inevitable.

Never heard that before. Also, I had a Bolivar No. 3 recently which is very slender 34 ring and it was one of the loosest draws I've smoked.

Did you cut enough off the end?

Me neither, I have had problems with RYJ before, don't know why... But none recently!

Every now and again I smoke w cigar which I haven't tried before and dislike the draw, which is why I always buy 3/4 so I can experience them apart and if I conclude one was bad, I haven't written them all off.

Now that being said, in Plymouth we have a very small tobacconist who I've used before. I bought a punch coronation only to find it was mouldy... Went back and watched the guy check his stock, 90% was ruined...

My point is, if they hadn't kept them properly, all the ones you bought would be "bad" as you suggested!

I think I did. Not very good at cutting cigars.

Some of the cigars were perfect, while others had a tight draw.

It happens sometimes. As CJ said, give it a jab in the back end.

You can buy a tool called the draw improver or something for badly rolled cigars. I might have a link.

Or you can use a toothpick or cocktail stick as cj121 suggested above

Hmm can't find it but you could use a crochet hook too. It's a spike with a hook groove cut into it to snag offending leaves on the way out. Or a nice drill bit.
I tend to either cut the cigar off where it feels hard or ditch it and select another.

The biggest thing I've found you can do to stop problems with draw is to reduce humidity. When I dropped down to 62-65% I essentially stopped getting plugged and tight draws. Going down from 68-70% made a huge, huge difference

I went down to 52% and found vastly increased levels of flavour intensity and draws. Beyond 52% I ran into issues with wrappers being too delicate.
