  • Worried here.

Hi gents. I've seasoned my humi and done all that people have asked. I have heartfelt beads 65% and the humidity has stayed around 73%. I've just added some cigars and have left for 3 hours but still no change. Shall I add some more sticks that aren't in tubes? To try and bring it down or leave it or what not. I've just bought boveda 65% should arrive Monday. Just don't know whether to add more or not.

Hmmmm - I'm not an expert on heartfelt beads but what strikes me as being an issue is that the cigars are in tubes. There is no natural material exposed to absorb the moisture.

At that level, I wouldn't suggest adding more or opening the tubes. I'm a Boveda fan through and through...

When they arrive, bung one in and leave it!

The beads may be overcharged and unable to take in any excess humidity

First try leaving the humidor open for a bit

It is worth sticking some untubed cigars as that should bring the humidity down - tubes won't absorb any

it nothing to worry anyway - just give it a bit of time

Personally I prefer beads to Boveda (although both are excellent)

3 hrs isn't much time tbh. Did you charge/wet the beads? As Sheppers said, they may be over wet?

I've now taken the beads out and I might of over wet them. Advice to do what till morning? Leave beads out? Add more sticks not in tubes or open the tubes? (Tbh the tube cigars are a little dry

Put it all back in and also put a small bowl of dry rice in. The tubes will be fine for now and the rice will bring some of the excess moisture out.

You dont want to over hydrate dry sticks to quickly. But the tubes should be fine if they are capped.

Ok dont put it in the oven, just leave it for a day or two thing with cigars and humis they take time days weeks years. Only thing that takes minutes is turning them to smoke and ash

As CJ says 3 hrs isn't enough time. Roughly 20% of your beads should still be opaque and the rest clear once you have hydrated them. If the RH levels aren't coming down dry them out with hairdryer or leave them somewhere warm for a few hours and stick them back in as they will absorb excess moisture. This stuff takes time and as long as your temp isn't through the roof, ie north of 70deg all will be fine.

Stick the heartfelt beads back in and give it a couple of days and you should find it has settled down

Got a sneaky feeling that heartfelt have sent me 70% beads as I've had most of my cigars in there now for over 24 hours and it's stayed at 70% dead.

Don't worry just yet. I had exactly the same problem earlier in the year and I even emailed HF, questioning the bead's set point. Was duly blanked, but the beads come come good and have being doing their thing at 65% ever since. Mine were in a cooler and took almost two weeks.

Out of curiosity, what were you at before putting them in?
