You wouldn't want to poke your sausage in a bird with no skin wether you can or not. The skin tastes nice.
Cigar wrappers give tastes and aromas through more means that the smoke they give off. To suggest that you can quantify a percentage of taste from the percentage of tobacco present in the cigar is pretty silly, it's on the outside so it comes into direct contact with your tasting hole! fair point... the whole heston blumenthal thing is about taste being influenced by sight and sound. You see a lemon and expect certain flavours... and yet taste the same lemon blindfold and it remains to be a lemon, but you have a slightly altered taste profile.

          Maduro

Exactly CJ I've had the same in many Maduro cigars, hence why I side more with Tim Torres' view that the wrapper is just a dress but with some minor flavour enchantments

and PeeJay I think that could be down to age or a good box code? Just good filler in the cigars you had

He's not a star as such but he's an old (I believe Cuban) torcedor that still rolls his own somewhere cigars for his company in the US. You can find a video that someone uploaded of him on YouTube. He appears to have worked at many factories in the past so I'm just relaying what he reckons wrapper's do. I'm no "wrapper expert" but what he says is quite interesting; I'm just the messenger haha

I know these things are subjective; everyone's palate is different but for me, personally, the difference in flavour in what was my third ever cigar was so pronounced that it really intrigued me and led me to investigate cigars further. As I mentioned before, it was the same blend, same binders, only the wrapper was different. I knew nothing about cigars when I smoked these so I didn't have any pre-conceived idea or expectations of flavour or strength but the maduro wrapper had me wax lyrical to my uninterested GF as we sat on the banks of the Mississippi watching the world go by. I didn't get anywhere near the same flavour experience from the Conneticut Shade nor the Cameroon with the same blend.

So its seems my instinct on the cohiba 5 was right as a good place to start... And any NC's anyone might reccomend as being distinctively maduro?

appreciate your views as ever chaps!

I recall liking Oliva Serie G Maduro for its Chocolate flavour and the CAO Gold Maduro for its overall pleasantness.

I was really looking forward to trying Maduro 5s given I really like maduros and bought myself one while on holiday with the intention of buying a box if I liked them. it was a lovely looking stick but a disappointing smoke, pretty flat with not a lot of flavour. Thinking I must have missed something I bought another one - nope. Genios and Magicos were poor maduros imo. Secretos might be a good one? Smaller vitolas might mean there's more wrapper flavour (and they're cheaper).
I've enjoyed short story and nub maduros recently. Might see what I've got and have a maduro today now you've got me thinking....

the magicos were tempting but the secretos have been recommended earlier- will give them a go and compare i reckon! Love NUB, so will give them a spin, and not had a bad Oliva yet, so another to the list!
                          cheers folks.

Forgot to mention my favourite maduro - La Aurora Cien Anos Maduro Especial Edicion. absolute flavour bomb. Box smells like Black Magic chocolates when I open it.
