  • Tempered glass humidors/cheap retail display humidors

I bought one of these type humidors last year, display piece with 4 pull out trays, but have really noticed the majority of cigars i smoke from this humidor don't taste great. Orinally bought for cheap smokes everyday smokes but not even wanting to leave a Monti 5 in there anymore.

Its interesting because it's RH readings are very stable with my other humi's but the smokes just don't taste good, my senses are telling me its to do with the lack of wood and to much tempered glass.

if any of you folks could shine some knowledge and science on the matter of using these type of humi's would be great!

    Similar to this but cheaper

    cheers

I would wonder whether the exposure to light (sunlight?) has had a detrimental impact? Has the unit been in direct sunlight Aky?

Has never been in direct sunlight, im just looking at other cigars from different humidors and they all match up well in terms of feel & smell etc

just never seem to get good results from this humi

I've no idea then Aky, sorry. Perhaps put a few reliable cigars in there for a few months and see if they change??

Will do that be a good experiment

but in the mean time gonna shift all the good reliable smokes out and make space in the others, something telling me not to trust this thing for anything but cheap & cheerful smokes!

Wood breathes and fermentation requires oxygen. But then again Tubos don't breath too much. My biggest worry would be a risk of condensation.

Joust thought I might be being silly here. Do you have a picture of the humi? I have a picture in my head of a complete glass humi.
