Having read back a bit, you're in a very fortunate position to have an RH of around 62% in your home. That's a bonus, and I expect in your particular experience, and environment, your method works
for you, but six months is a long time I think. What set up (storage) and humidification system do you have as this may put your advice into context for readers (and me)
not 6 months about 8 weeks ... Next year add water in May and leave the humidifiers in the humi , just don't add water until sept ... They won't be dried out .

like I said ... Almost the hardest thing to convince people of ... Guys ( especially those new(er) to cigars ) just feel they have to do something hands on ... You don't need to add water to your humidifiers during the non-heating season .

i use " set and forget " humidifiers in my humi ... Not " hermetically " sealed by any means ... If using coolers they are ( pretty much ) hermetically sealed .

Sorry if I misinterpreted your points, but I made a link between May and end of September as you mentioned taking all humidification systems out of any humidors. So, you're saying top up in May, take out in the summer, put back in September? 'Summer" being about eight weeks.

Your system will be electronic and 'active' I assume. For anyone looking in and unfamiliar, a set and forget unit in its basic form will have a large water reservoir which 'feeds' the humidification unit, which wicks the water out. The RH is electronically adjustable, accurate, and assisted by fans strategically placed in the humidor. Would that be a fair description Derrek? I've nothing big enough to require one myself.

With passive systems (beads, gel, boveda etc) I don't think that I can personally subscribe to your approach. Keeping the RH up in any unit over summer months unless the ambient RH lends itself to somewhere near to mid sixties would be tricky.

I think the main determinant or helpful factor in your circumstance/approach, appears to be your cigar-friendly ambient RH. For example, last night in my home, the RH sat at 51%. In one humi for example, sat on a unit in a lounge, I 'need' to spritz the beads about every four weeks. If left eight, I'd be a little concerned. But hey, your way works for you and it's an interesting concept, no doubt based on your personal experience and success

As simple as that ... People can't or won't be convinced of this .

next year try it ... It works ... Unless you live in a desert .

another point I try to make ( that you just ( sort of ) brought up ) ... Never NEVER put water on your beads ...use florists foam ( separately ) to add humidity ... The beads will last forever ( no cracking and no mold ever ) .

Back again derrek as you've got me on this one: so what happens if you don't take your humidification system out of your humidor for approximately eight weeks? Why do you do this?

In my small humidor I've just had to fill the passive humidifier because the level had dropped below 65%

I find I regularly need to recharge my beads in summer and if anything struggle to keep it at 65 (more than I do in winter anyway), maybe its a lower RH generally here than where you are @dvickery?

( for the third time ) I do not take my humidifiers out in the summer ... I said this originally and then quoted my own post to reinforce .

removing all humidity sources was just a recommendation to the guy with the mold problem .

sure feels like I am banging my head against a wall here .

I know what you mean there, as I was feeling the same

Well, thanks for clearing that one up eventually. I was beginning to think that your system was "set and don't forget to take it out"

I think the issue here was new coolerdor and an excessive humidifier, holding just as steady with a smaller humidifier.
