As this was asked as a sensible question, I'll just through in my 5cts worth. Firstly putting cigars in Cello was one of the first uses of the product & used because it's porous to water molecules so doesn't have to be removed for getting correct humidity in your huimi. I agree they probably don't do much when slipped on an NC or modern Cuban by the vendor but try a 30-50yrs Cuban in cello & there is a noticable difference IMHO & not just mine as they fetch better money at auction so others must believe it as well. So my advice would be do as oyu please with modern stix but keep the ello on a vintage stick until your about to smoke it. I remember last time this discussion went around, does that make me veteran status?
I reckoned take them off for looks but then someone convinced me it both kept the oils in (that's the important stuff)
And made it easier to grab a stick to take on the go with you. Made sense to me when put like that. Now I, like many members on here, stopped buying NC after just a few months and as its something your likely to also do probably not worth worrying about.
Now tubos........................

I have always removed from the cellophane for the same reason I leave them in the tubes... (I know different discussion)
I cant see how, natural material cigar against natural material wood doesn't = good things... Plastic hasn't been around as long as cigars or wooden humidors... but saying that (and I've now pissed myself off) I store my boxes in tupperware!
DOH!
