  • Cigar smoking to buying ratio

At a rough estimation since last autumn I'm averaging a ratio or about 1:12.5 , I smoke around two a week as the weather is improving that is rising to 5/7 , however my buying is still going another 4 boxes ordered.
Be interesting to see other Botl ratios , lol who I know are on par and some far higher .

I know I buy WAY more than I can smoke---it's a bad habit but I have some peace in knowing others are in the same predicament [emoji16]

Buy 3 and smoke 1 .For a long time ... Smoke about 150 to 200 cigars per year ... Buy about 450 to 500 per year .Looking at the longer/bigger picture ... Every 3 years I have about 1000 more cigars than I had 3 years ago .Doesn't sound like much ... But do it for ( over ) 20 years .Derrek

I would say I smoke maybe 2 / 3 a week and in the past month (including a holiday) I've bought about 150 cigars. I smoked maybe 3 in the 4 / 5 months to May.

I have told MLW that I'm building stock for when the day comes that I can't afford to buy cigars but still want to smoke them.

I better not post this ratio in case my wife sees it!

My smoking is outstripping my buying just now..that will change soon.

I'm probably at 3/1 buying to smoking at the moment. Still in the trying to find a favourite stage. Have already run out of room in the humi. Can't seem to find a decent one anywhere without spending a fortune. Have resorted to a temporary Tupperdor 'til I find one.

You guys have got it right. I myself am probably on a 1:1 ratio. Will pick up a few, put them in the humidor then smoke my way through them, until the next pay day when I can afford to buy my next few for the month

That's the great thing with cigars: they keep. And the longer, the better. So even if you are buying a lot in, it's all good. My collection is small because I only get through about maybe 15 a year, give or take. And word on the street is, my Mrs is bringing me a box back today from her short getaway

Ratio 1:1. Generally, I only smoke a cigar at the weekend. I may go to one of the cigar merchants in London on a Saturday and sample a cigar. If I enjoy it and the forecast for the weekend is good, I may purchase a few more cigars and enjoy them over the weekend.

Buying as the wise young Wigan has on his signature block, is far more addictive than the smoking. I have 10yrs stock at current levels but as PJ says, hopefully I'll have a long retirement (semi-retirement more likely), when money will be tighter than it is now so it'll be batten down the hatches & I'll have more than enough for a couple, a couple of times a week & I don't see me wanting more than that. If I don't live long enough to empty my humi's then my daughter will be on here trying to flog my wares, I trust you'll all be suitable generous with her legacy! P.S. She has been trained to keep them at the right humidity & earned her pocket money during her Uni yrs, topping them up whilst I was away.

Too analytical for me - if they're there, smoke 'em!
