So who else has been on the auction site deciding what to buy if they win the lottery in the next thirteen days?

Ha ha ha, I had a look earlier on. There are some mightily expensive lots. I noticed a few of the more expensive items were coming from Davidoff's humidor.

Are the additional charges the same as previous?
Something like 20% buyers premium + 20% vat..Makes those already high prices quite a bit higher

Actually just 15% plus VAT premium which is the lowest figure in the auction world.

Do the estimates really look high ? where would you find comparable Pre Embargo, Davidoff, Dunhill cigars at a lower price or even at any price ?

We advise sellers regarding estimates based on our understanding of similar cigar sold at previous auctions or through private treaty sales throughout the year. I dare say we don't always get it right but over the last 6 years of running auctions we are batting around a 98 % sale rate so overall we must be estimating correctly.

buyers are not only from China and span the far East as well as Europe and the Middle East

ouch! sellers are charged 15% + VAT AND the byers are charged 15% + VAT according to the PDF on the site.

That's pretty normal though. These aren't boxes of 2014 D4's. Some of the stuff in the auction are very rare and the rest is hard to come by. I'm not trying to be provocative, it's simply my view that we live in a capitalist society and these items are offered to those interested. If you're not interested you can just browse for fun. Everyone's happy.

Christie's announced on 15 February 2013 that it would raise buyer's premium effective 11 March 2013. The new premiums were 25% for the first $75,000; 20% on the next $75,001 to $1.5 million and 12% on the rest.[10]Sotheby's followed suit on 28 February,[11] announcing raised premiums effective 15 March 2013.[12] Buyers in London, New York and France are charged 25% on the first $100,000 (?50,000; €30,000); 20% from $100,000 up to and including $2 million (?50,000 to ?1,000,000; €30,000 to €1,200,000) and 12% on the remainder.[11][12]

My comment wasn't intended to knock the auctioneers nor the projected value placed on the lots, I'm in no position to estimate perceived values. I enjoyed looking through the list non the less and seeing what rare items were available.

Appreciateded and understood Rob, hopefully if nothing , interesting to see the photographs of the very rare vintage and pre embargo cigars. Some are really quite breath taking. If you are ever in London , come on over and I'll show you some up close and personal !

                            Hi Mitchell

While we have you here -

The retail price of current production cigar's in the UK is about twice the retail price of cigars from duty free shops elsewhere. Is the large price difference up to the Government's silly taxes or the cost of EMS imports and or cost of operating in the UK - property costs, minimum wages compared to the rest of the world etc? (not to mention any profit
