    How do you select yours?

i recently had an upmann that i found utterly 🐒💩. It should have been a cheeky little smoke but was just 'meh'. It had been a while since i'd had one... So maybe my tastes have changed. Or it was just the wrong smoke to have with a bourbon, after a good scoop of japanese food and white wine.

So it got me thinking... Almost everyone here has a rich choice of options. I doubt if many only smoke one or two vitolas. What makes you pick the next stick to smoke...? Matching your taste to.....Habit? Mood? Setting? Time? Or just gut instinct on whats right and whats making you lick your chops?

I'm keen to push out the boundaries of what i smoke, rather than defaulting to tried and tested every time.

    cheers
    MRC

Normally its just whatever takes my fancy when I go to the humidor, occasionally I get it in my head that I want a particularly stick and look forward to it all day, but on the whole it is just random

After narrowing down my preferences for particular brands over the years, my determinant is available 'me time'

Having to choose from a very modest selection of singles. REs, LEs, hard to finds, or aged, etc is more difficult but driven by occasion.

It's usually a balance between available time and what I feel like smoking... and these are not always compatible!

Depends on how much free time I'll have to smoke, and whether I want a light to medium or strong smoke. Hard to predict a smoke though when trying a new stick out. So sometimes I go for proven smokes, for particular moments. Hate it though when you try a new stick and it's not to liking...

Same really, available time and variety, I dont like to smoke the same cigar twice in a row. I also think that the taste of a cigar can definitely be affected by what you've eaten previously and what you're drinking. The cigar experience is definitely spoilt if your mind is somewhere else, stressed or if your in a rush to go somewhere else so I think its always worth making sure you have plenty of time on your hands.

Hopefully the weather will hold up today, as I have a Monte No.2 lined up for later this afternoon

I very rarely smoke during the day, so it's usually at home when I get back from work and as long as it's not raining I'm quite happy to sit out with the patio heater and relax with whatever comes to hand.
