When I stared smoking cigars I didn't pay much attention to the storage, age or type of cigars I smoked.
The first thing that became very apparent is that all cigars are created equal but some are most definitely more equal than others. I smoked cigars that have literally made me feel sick and others that have made me feel better! lol. Exploring the cigar world and finding what you like is very important.
The second thing that became apparent was the storage of said sticks. A cigar that has been in a glove box with no protection for a few months doesn't smoke very well. lol. As I started to buy humidors and related paraphernalia, the taste, draw and burn of the cigars improved.
The third and currently final lesson I have leant personally, is the ageing of a cigar is very important. Now I'm not talking about paying a ridiculous amount for some pre embargo cigars because of some misplaced belief of perfection. I'm talking about trying to buy sticks with at least a few years on them but much more importantly in my opinion, letting them rest and age in your humidor for as long as possible.
I have sticks in my humidor that when I brought them I thought were pretty poor but then a year or so later, are totally, totally different. A pure pleasure to smoke compared to a huge disappointment.
So..... I'm no expert but if there are newbies out there that are not taking care of the cigars, you may well be missing out.
What is the most important thing you have learnt about your cigars?
