  • possibly the daftest question....

.. but does anyone have their cigars & kit covered by insurance?

Never to be admitted to my wife but I did a rough ready reckoner on what my own tiny collection cost, and replacing them in one hit would hurt!

Looking around the forum there are some mighty impressive investments of substantial hundreds and often many thousands of pounds sat in roomy scubadors, humidors and whatever the thing you keep your smoking accoutrements is called etc. Not least of all the average price of an 'ellie bleu' Dunhill or St duPont anything is enough to be an exceptional item on household insurance...

Probably possible to insure against theft, accidental damage... but not fire!?! or not at all? Clearly a series of small manageable accidental fires might not get a pay out!!

Just thinking out loud... anyway can you tell its a sunny day and I dont want to be in the office, but rather on a sun deck with a puro?!

Depending on the policy they would presumably be covered against theft up to the policy limit. For a small collection that should be enough. A larger collection might need declaring to the insurer and may or may not be covered, I suppose.

Depending On your insurance policy and the value of the collection it May already be covered for some things but that would be down to the individual to check with their insurer. On the other hand specifically insuring a collection could be an exercise in frustration, again Depending on insurer they May not even offer cover, mine would need to arrange a bespoke policy with evidence of what I have smoked and regular checks.... I know this because my Mrs works for my insurer. Unless it's a very very large collection with historic value or value above and beyond their smoking value I think that more often than not it's probably pointless to specifically insure.... but again that's up to the individual.

If it is beyond the single item limit on your policy one can ensure it along the lines of a wine cellar. The key for insurers will be well maintained, up to date records.

Do you think photos of purchases work seeing as cant always provide a receipt for a box split with a mate or similar
