  • What with old, dry to the bone cigars?

My neighbor gave me a bunch of his old cigars as he doesnt smoke anymore, doctor's orders. I'm assuming these are what used to be "respectable, working class cigars" in the late 20th century :-) . The pricetag isnt in Euros yet, hence the timing.
I remember them as my dad also occasionally smoked CD, Corps Diplomatique.
There are some Villa Zamorano (Honduras Puros); Schimmelpenninck VSOP (schimmel is dutch for mold... marketing blooper) in different sizes and Hollandia Wilde Cigars who all look like the foot exploded. Probably why they called them "wilde".
They were stored in a wooden box, in the living room. And in the Belgium climate :-)

My question is, approximately how long would they need to recondition in a properly conditioned humidor? Or just leave them in there a month and try one?
    Most are panatella size.

Going to try one of the Wilde ones... hoping it doesn't spontaneously combust or throw me into an vomitting spasm. BANZAAAAI.uploadfromtaptalk1428924286119.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428924296428.jpg

I don't think the foot exploded. I think they are made that way

Guinness it can be done if you have the patience it's a slow process, in your shoes this is what i'd do
other members might do it differently

The idea is to recondition the cigars slowly: Place them as far away as possible from the humidification device for the first couple of weeks, and then move them closer over a period of six weeks. Or, you might place the dry cigars in a box that has lower humidity for a week, and then put them in a box with slightly higher humidity for a week or two, and finally in a box with the proper 70 to 72 percent humidity. Again, the entire process might take up to six weeks

Shaggy foot. .. love that. Now I'm thinking of Scooby Doo... LOL

it lit up at the mere sight of a flame. Quite practical that shaggy foot, like a kindle stick. Taste was just like the sumatra blend i usually smoke (Knakje). Heaps of smoke! really dense smoke that wants to stick together. Like in the old days when you walked into a caf? and couldnt see the people for the smoke.
And palest ash I've had so far.

It did burn fast and deep. Could clearly feel the heat 4cm in from the foot.
I'll give that recondition method a go. Cheers #TonyN

I'm not sure Dutch cigars would need any reconditioning, aren't they 'dry' cigars to be kept in a box rather than a humidor.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Not to worry you but 'schimmel' translates as mold! Couldn't translate 'penninck'

Guinness the Dutch cigars, as mentioned are dry cured & aren't kept in humi's in the Dutch shops. They won't be great but honestly, they are not great to start with! Sounds like your having a go & it certainly would be a shame to waste them. Enjoy!

bit of a marketing blooper there.
