  • The Cut

When I was introduced to the world of good smokes, in the mid 90's, the prevailing trend seemed to be to take a feint sliver off the cap when cutting.

Now returning to cigars after a decade or so, the majority of pics seem to show cut cigars with a good healthy slice taken away giving quite an exposed face. I understand the effect of a broad vs narrow cut. BUT, am keen to understand why the prevailing trend now seems to be for a broad cut. Whether its improvements in the construction (surely it cant have changed too much?) or a stronger appreciation for a cooler draw etc.

    Thanks for sharing your perspective.
    Matt

I have noticed this becoming more common, but I suppose its your own personal preference I suppose?

I personally, from my limited expertise feel that like all trends things may change again. People learn from others and use the techniques they see.

I myself use broad and narrow cuts, v cuts, punches. Then again I like variety and experimenting

I'm a big fan of the broad cut, I do smoke larger ring gauges more often though. I do prefer the cool draw in comparison to a punch.

i've always taken a narrow slice, or more recently a bullet and from time to time have suffered with what I can only guess is scorched taste buds... will be giving the wide cut a try particularly as I favour wide gauge smokes too
