Hey Amigos

Have become really frustrated smoking lately, the last five smokes i've had have been really crap

Monti 2
VR Familier
Epicure no2,
Trinidad Reye
Siglo I

These are all cigars i like to smoke and enjoy but have had to toss all of them starting the second third, all been really bland tasting, dirty at times and not burning that well, that's not normal for these smokes

We all know from time to time you get the odd smoke that's off, but to have a series of five not working whats going on?!! My Humi's/scubi's have been great, not had any problems until recently (February), not convinced there are any issues there though

A side of me thinks its smoking outside this time of year or have i just been unlucky?

Have you guys had this before where you go through a series of cigars that just aren't working for you?

Cheers

I only recently noticed (or bought into the idea), that enviornment and mood play into my enjoyment of them. Let me explain. I used to take a cigar out when i went on a night out with my mates. To my recollection I did not enjoy one. Too many looks, questions on "oooh cubans blah blah blah", or feeling under pressure to get it finished while my mates chained ciggies- so I promptly stopped that.

I also used to smoke out back on the veranda while looking laptop- don't do that anymore as I am not paying attention to the cigar.

I think I have it now though, nice weather- no tech- bottle of Merlot/dram of nice whiskey and carefully selected cigar from my humi. This at the moment has been working really well for me.

Yep, you've nailed it Jonny, its about relaxing. You'll find its even better in good company.

Time and attention are key, allow yourself the best chance to enjoy it. Think of the cigar where the wrapper was knackered and still it smoked like a dream.... Thats got to be part mood, part setting, and atmosphere!

all of the above can be different each time too. Sometimes its quiet relaxation, others its in a more rowdy late night chat round a fire pit with your best malt hidden away!

Maybe your taste buds/olfactory system has been under par? Had a colds/illness over recent weeks/months?

I got into cigars with an eye to making time to relax. It worked.

Just my opinion things always taste better when we are relaxed , rather than being on the go.

I must admit, I've tried smoking in all situations, walking, beer garden, driving etc. My favourite is while literally relaxing or using it as an escape from the real world for 90min either alone or with someone. I don't smoke when with friends because of that very reason JonnyO. Sounds daft, but some 'me' time.

Yeah this is a brilliant post and very very me. Only thing in front of me is a kindle and/or some music in the background. If your concentration is on anything much else you lose the moment. Obviously that's not the same for everyone, and I've also enjoyed many good cigars and good company, but my absolute favourite moments I put everything aside and concentrate on....nothing.

Can't beat a book and a smoke in my view - strongly concur that it's a solitary pursuit, or one to be taken with another enthusiast. However , I have had some great late night, drunk as a skunk smokes with friends
