I too used to take the odd Omeprazole but was a regular Zantac and Rennies taker. I am over weight by a few stone (literally gained in the past 2 years) and have been pretty inactive and made bad lifestyle choices over the past 2 years, I've started gymming again and making the 'smart choices' when it comes to food, not drastic but swapping chips for baked sweet potato and if making anything creamy, switching for low for creme fraiche. I also Gym 3-4 times a week (only about 20min cardio and the rest weights) and from someone who had it on a regular basis, I've had it twice since christmas, once when I had a scotch pie from greggs yesterday in glasgow because I was on the move and previously when I had some chocolate and coke late at night. The difference is amazing how much a bit of activity and a few changes to diet are having on my stomach! (also my chronic lower back pain from an injury is almost non existent because my muscles are stronger, I didnt think over exercising it would help but it does)
I've also lost a stone since christmas.
Some diet related things that cause me problems are:
Cucumber - don't really like it but used to eat it as a matter of course when the missus made a salad
Chocolate - late at night generally when you lie flatter [MENTION=13402683]MarkLondon[/MENTION] will understand with the hiatus hernia, my old man has one too
full fat coke - again, same as above
Pastry
Margeritas - well, any excess citrus fruit juice, its just the one way I prefer it!

It's too much of a coincidence now for me. I can feel a physical difference after I have had a cigar, like i'm not firing on all cylinders. It has me wondering if I have become slightly intolerant to nicotine. Even if i'm not I have a duty to my kids to be at my physical and mental peak.
On that basis i'm going to just stop short of giving up, I have decided to only smoke on special occasions for the foreseeable future and to address my lifestyle as a whole to improve my overall wellbeing.
Fair play bro, sometimes life gives you a choice and you have to make a conscious decision which path to take.
Must admit Ive been having the same thoughts myself lately, prompted by having my first child, makes you think things from a different perspective.
I also experienced acid reflux for the first time last year. Wasn't pleasant, I woke up in bed choking.
Looking at all the posters on here with it, its got to be related to the smokes..not something Id like to experience again.
i want to say that mine 100% wasn't, I can still enjoy the smokes, it's a factor of diet and lifestyle for me personally. not saying pure wrong, just don't want to create a scare factor about them.
I havnt vent been smoking for a long time though, I understand the risks about cigars, I would love to hear about people who know/experience the I'll effects. I've always seen them as a safe alternative to smoking.
IMO there is no safe alternative, we're electing to put concentrated gaseous chemicals into our body. Life's to short to worry so do what makes you happy. Right now feeling like crap isn't making me happy. Simple as that.

With regards your back , I've always been a strong advocate that you should always exercise and work a bad back , sitting still and lack of exercise will only prolong the issue
I smoked cigarettes for about 10 years and a lot of them. Quit 10 years ago and picked up cigars about a year ago. I am concerned about health and did some reading on studies. Lung cancer is 5 times more likely for cigar smokers. I assume that comes from indoor smoking which I don't do. 5 times more likely is still OK for me though. I don't smoke in winter or bad weather, so I don't smoke too much in general. In that light I do not intend to stop. But I think if you are concerned and think about quitting 'some day's then don't wait, quit now. Life has plenty more to offer.
As for kids, my parents neither smoked nor drank. Didn't keep me from being a heavy smoker and experimenting with drugs when I was a teenager. Kids will make mistakes. Just try to give them a healthy personality so they have a strong foundation to make the right choices for themselves later in life.

Ah, sorry. Didn't see that. Yeah, according to a study they did on 123k people that only smoked cigars and not cigarettes. They factored in alcohol consumption as well. The good news is, all other cancers they looked at were 2.5-4 times more likely for cigar smokers. As cigar smoke is far more toxic than cigarette smoke, it does make sense when people smoke in a room. Though you don't inhale while smoking the cigar, your passive consumption is quite bad. I would recommend not to smoke anywhere where you don't have very good ventilation. Let me find the study...
