  • Has / does anyone roll(ed) their own?

I was digging about online last night and came across a site selling Cigar Tobacco leaves, cured, of various origins in kit form, ie: Filler, Binder, Wrapper...

I dug some more and found a lot of people rolling their own cigars from these kits, aging and smoking them...I would like to give it a try and wondered had anyone tried it?

They sell a machine for rolling much like one that people use to make roll up cigarettes, but it costs a few hundred...I thought it was sort of cheating using a roller machine, but it seems they are heavily in use in cigar factories - And the sticks are still classed as hand rolled..........

But anyhow, has anyone tried it?

This. I even tracked down an old Corona sizer.....

Felt like I'd be all over this if I only had the time. And perhaps the money to spend on leaves and shit.

It'd be an interesting project for sure. I've an old short perfecto mold, and having a small allotment always fancied growing something but quality seeds for filler and wrapper has eluded me and drying/curing is a resource/space issue. Mind you that's slightly off topic to the OP.

Would be cool to have a go at rolling- there are lots of videos of Cuban cigar rolling on youtube. Wouldn't even like to think about growing own leaves though.. Lots of skill required in the drying and curing before the rolling. I have grown Nicotiana in the garden and one benefit is that it does grow easily and gets big leaves. Theres a big difference to the texture of cured tobacco and the original leaf and thats down to the multi stage process of drying, curing and retaining the right moisture levels. Old wooden cigar moulds are always on ebay.

Great video here about the whole process, worth making a brew and enjoying an hour of this-

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

I have ordered a ton load of fillers, binders and wrappers! I didnt go for the machine as its pricey...I did pick up a tuck cutter and a couple of chaveta knives...

It hasn't worked out so expensive, and hopefully in a few weeks I will have a few to try and some to post to however wants to risk it!!

Perhaps I will do a thread on the whole thing as it unrolls (No pun intended)
