  • 1a St James. A day out

Popped into town over the weekend and stayed at the Cavendish on Jermyn Street. Checked in super early at 10am and happily our room was ready, so straight up to the 12 floor to dump our bags and then undertake the 2 minute walk around the corner to what turned out to be Havana heaven.

We were greeted my Mr Emery (I believe most of you are familiar with his emporium) and after a brief tour of the store, sampling lounge and walk in cigar room it was time to choose our first Puro of the day. Baring in mind it was still early an easy smoke was in order and as we were in Dunhill I felt it would be rude not to have one of their own offerings.

So, we opted for a Dunhill aged Valverde, I'm afraid I can't do you a full review of this smoke other than it was a very easy and mild experience which was ideal for 11am accompanied by a nice cup of coffee. I would go as far to say that I would have another and not worry about recommending one to a friend.

After a very pleasant hour with Robert it was time to part company to concentrate on matters which needed to be done namely picking some shopping that had been pre ordered from various retailers in and around St James and Bond Street. That said it did not get in the way of a cracking lunch at a very nice Italian just of Jermyn Street.

Enough of the boring stuff and back to Roberts around 1700 to rest our weary feet, more coffee and a early evening smoke. I stuck with the Dunhill theme and went for an signed Robusto and my chose an Alec Bradley Prensado Robusto. A very good looking cigar which was box pressed with a nice dark wrapper. My signed Robusto was a nice smoke, more flavour than the aged but I don't think it was the best constructed cigar as the burn was uneven and the wrapper split open long before the it reached where the cigar wrapper split. That aside it was nice and am sure it would have been better without issues.

6pm and tine to leave, the store closed at six but Robert was very polite in pointing this out to us and the other guests but made it very clear there was no rush to leave. What very agreeable gent Robert is.

Did i did I bring some sticks home with me? Of course I did.

    A few singles consisting of
    Montecristo No2
    Romeo Wide Churchill
    Cohiba Siglo II
    Montechristo Open Regata

How nice. It's good to see people having fun on a Monday having cigars and generally loving life. One day that will be me, one day!

Well spotted Sludgie, it is indeed a Pakeman but what you did not spot was that the second pic is not me it's my brother. I'm wearing Bladen in the first pic.

Well I think Ben and his brother have set the bar very high for the 1a St James's dress code.

              Pleasure to see you gents.
I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.

On my wish list too. One day perhaps, one day.

I was wondering why you changed outfits halfway through the day until I read it was your bro in the second pic. Thought 1a must have doubled as a fancy dress shop ala Mr Benn.

Sounds like a cracking day out anyway pal. Never even crossed my mind to have a Dunhill cigar, never seen anyone recommend or even comment about them. Maybe stick one on my list for a rainy day.

I was gonna say, you changed your tie during the day
But then thought, maybe that was the following day
Glad you had a nice day out
