Homemade or custom humidors

Done a little search and seen some of you have built or thinking of building your own humidor. Come on then, get them out! I'm looking for some inspiration as I would like to attempt to build one.
My plan at the moment is to refurbished an old mini fridge and refurbished it, then line the inside with Spanish Cedar.
Is there any materials I should avoid, glues, paints etc? Obviously I won't be painting the cedar. But if I put shelves in, strip and paint the outside of the fridge.

Home built HUMIDORS is well covered if you sift through old threads but I'm happy to start a new discussion with you too. I'm planning a home built humi from scratch using just wood, I'll share the process in a thread once my "Tommy's shack" build is finished [emoji6]

Is the fridge a proper fridge or a wine cooler? (commonly known as a coolerdor conversion). Wine coolers that are thermo-electric are the only ones suitable to use for active temperature control as they don't create condensation. A fridge on the other hand would only be able to be used as a passive.

Main enemies of these types of conversion are odours, from plastic interiors to glues/woods used. Spanish cedar is really the only wood that is ideal (old cigar boxes can be used, these help stability of humidity a lot).

I've never used a glue in my cooler, I just loose sit everything in there on the shelves, lots of empty boxes and 2lbs of heartfelt beads to regulate humidity.

In Malaysia you are going to have a much harder time controlling humidity than in the UK.

Most people don't line the wine fridge but add cedar shelves or drawers.

My only advice is to make sure you are getting CEDRELA ODORATA, Honduran cedar, Spanish cedar is a misnomer, go for minimum of 3mm thickness as it will hold more moisture and be more stable and line the whole inside of whatever you choose to use.

I wouldn't be plugging the fridge in, purely just for athletics.

This will be a project for when I'm back in the UK. I find that my cigars keep fine just in their box out here and kept in a cool room, giving them an air every few days. Plus there is a cigar shop below my apartment with a walk in, so I never really need to keep my own stock

Ill have a look through those winedors and cooledors tomorrow and see if there's anything I like the look of, cheers.

Lucky man!! I'd check out Jabba the hutts post. His kitchen cabinet conversion was very impressive and looked simple to me.
