  • Interesting little read.

What do you think of this article??
Always see a few of these 'what you must/must not do' things about.

I though number two was a bit strange given that we have 'vintage' cigars?

    What's your thoughts guys!

He works for a company making NC's so probably doesn't buy into the whole "aging" thing and the title of that particular point is actually a little misleading as he actually seems to be saying that it's the year on year differences that are negligible, but it's hard to say as its a poorly worded article.

There is going to be a lot of different articles trying to undermine the Cuban cigar industry.

      Big pinch of salt.

1: Every cigar is different, accept it.

2: Blenders go to great lengths to make sure every cigar is the same.

6: Big cigars make you cough....

Yeah.... This piece has issues from my POV.
But, ultimately it's an "If you don't do this then you're not one of the in crowd" pieces of writing.

What gives anyone the authority to decide what a "Real cigar aficionado" is?

Erm, yeah. That was definitely a "if you don't agree with this entirely you're some kind of cigar pariah" article.

I think we'll be seeing more of these as time goes on as the NC industry tries to protect itself from both Cuba and the FDA.

On a similar subject, talking to Shane at LCDH in Amsterdam (done a fair bit of that this week, but its been great, and I've learnt a lot): He's noticed the general attitude changing against long skinny vitolas, we sorta agreed because they're seen as "lady's smokes" by a significant element in the US who think "go big or go home". Of course neither of these things are true. He and Didi emphasised the point with a LGC Gold Medal #4. Whilst that isn't specifically cited in the article, it seems like an unwritten addendum to this sort of attitude.

Also, I'm no cigar chomper, but your mouth is kinda a convenient place to keep your smoke if you suddenly need two hands and are out walking.

I guess though, there are always these articles for casual cigar smokers looking to be knowledgeable in front of friends/boss/who knows. Some are humerous or deliberate wind ups, this looks straight faced.

I thought they all sounded reasonable guidelines for a newbie. By the time you have been around a bit you have formed your own opinions.

Agree with Simon - although they aren't all great rules, most don't seem to be so terrible as to earn such angry responses
