  • That was the the week that was.

Sorry I haven't been able to post much lately, had very poor comms, took my new laptop to ABZ but I think the cobbles on the way to Wigan's did it in. So now I am back on the rig & catching up on sleep, wearing clean clothes & not smoked for 48hrs, I think I can do a quick round up on a pretty incredible week. I left home last Tues @05:10 to travel via Eurostar to London & met up with Cathryn, a genuine SOTL over from Dubi. Got to ABZ & went to my smoking hotel & had a
    1. LGC Immensous, poor burn, poor construction, under-filled & generally disappointing, didn't enjoy the maduro wrapper at all.
Wed: Did a Manual Handling course, back to the smoking hotel & struck up a

    2. Cohiba Esplen' beautiful pre-03 label smoke. Everything that was bad about last nights was perfect in this stick.
Thurs no flight available so went into ABZ & did some business, later went to meet Wigan for the first time in his flat & a little later the Mighty Red showed up too. Wigan gifted me a

    3. H. Upmann Half Corona. My first of this vitola & was pleasantly surprised, though it better than the RG Perla. Red than gave us both a

    4. Boli Immensas, wonderful Boli smoke, with no problems. I gifted Red a Trini Colonaies & Wigan a ERDM CS, both will review these later for you.
Fri got up at 04:50 to make my check-in @ 06:00 but due to the weather, we never got away & I chose the Speedbird, nearer hotel to the Heli-port so I didn't have to rely on a taxi to get me there for my check-in the next day. Went into town & met Wigan again. I had:

    5. Partagas Series D No1 Piramides, from a box I bought at auction a few yrs ago. Super smoke smoke now, not as powerful as they used to be but just what I needed, as I kicked back on the recliner & watched the fire & drank my beer, whilst getting paid. Ain't life a Bit*h?
Checked in Sunday 09:00, stood down again 15:00. Had told Wigan I wouldn't come into town today & instead went to the main airport & had

    6. A Flor du Lachan, a 1960's Jamaican pc. This was a very tasty stick, had had one a few yrs ago so I wasn't too surprised. If Jamaicans still tasted like this today, I'd be smoking them!
Monday morning we turn up & they tell us there is a weather window from 09:00 until 12:00, plenty of time to get us away. The first chopper went technical, the warning lights came on like a 'Christmas tree.' They swapped aircraft & we were told to put our suits back on & prepare to leave. Then the message came back the second aircraft had gearbox oil pump failure! Undress again, another cup of tea. They came back & said the original aircraft was now fit to fly but we had to move it to make the window & make sure the chopper didn't get stuck on the rig, unable to take off. We went out the aircraft, we boarded, we strapped in, the pilot started the engines & switched them off again. He had just been contacted by ATC that the standby boat reported they were out of limits & couldn't effect a rescue. Stood down an hour later. I couldn't go to the Speedbird as it was full so this time I was promoted to the Maddison Courtyard. I dropped off my bags & headed into town. I needed to re-supply my Havana's & went to CASK. Still no building started on the smoking terrace. I brought a Hoyo Epicure Especial '08, JL no2 12 & a PL Picadores 14.

    7. Had the Hoyo at the Soul bar, in their plastic tent, with gas flame heaters & digi TV! The cigar wasn't great, shame after 6ys I expected better. Contacted Wigan & picking up a beer made my way over.

    8. JL No2, fine smoke, don't have these often but it went down a treat tonight.
Tues up 04:50 made check-in & finally arrived offshore by 09:00, after 180 hrs since leaving home & smoking 8 cigars, in 7 days,. I have never smoked 3 days in a row before & don't expect to repeat this experience but it certianly was an experience. Will save & then add photos

Trickle does make a good point, when you finally give up the offshore life you'd make a fine writer. You have very pleasant style which paints a picture without as I heard it described today 'kicking the arse out of an anecdote'. Sounds like an envy able few days to.

I always expect a review! Sorry though Wigan, I forgot you had already smoked it. Well you could say if you enjoyed it or not, seemed to go down well.

You did mate, you did. It's a stick many starters don't get if they began on the stronger brands but the flavours are their if you take the time kick back in the recliner, thrown another log on the fire & open that Blue Band Becks!
