Oh sure, chico. If you ain't in the mood for a puro but spark up anyway, the enjoyment won't be the same. And the weather not only alters our mood, which affects our enjoyment, but it also impacts puro performance, in terms of burn and draw.

Umm, you forgot to mention health. Nothing worse than wasting a fine puro trying to smoke when sick, eg., cold, flu, etc.

I think you may be forcing it too much buddy. Relax and just let it happen (oo..er matron)

I have been smoking on and off for a year now and I am only starting to pick up nuances of flavour (the key word here is NUANCE- if something is described as having a honey note don't expect it to taste like a spoon of honey.

And if you are not getting the nuances...who cares? Its is much about the ritual and actual hobby than anything else. There are fewer better things in the world (weather pending), than coming home from work on a nice evening, cracking open a bottle of merlot/whiskey (insert your poison here), going to your humidor and having a good think about what you want to smoke. Making the best cut possible, appreciating the aroma and construction of the cigar ( I some times read a few reviews online before hand as to what to expect from it). Lighting it up and just relaxing.

that for me is heaven- and I haven't even started about the collecting part of the hobby and plotting what little gem you are going to pick up next. In short this isn't the same as smoking cigarettes, it's to be enjoyed.
?Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.?

Try a Cohiba Behike 52 before you give up, and take it very very, very, slowly.
Sip a Dr Pepper, or a Disaronno & coke with it, and let us know how you get on.

            Honestly it takes time.

Like a lot of complex, fine flavours it can be tricky to pick them out, especially when your palate hasn't developed enough to meet the challenge, but it does happen eventually!

It's very much like alcohol. I used to hate all spirits and believed them all to taste the same (harsh, burning nightmares of nastiness, even the "good" ones!) One day a few years ago I tried a very good Single Malt and for some reason still unknown to me, I actually enjoyed it (still didn't pick up on the hints of flavors or anything like that...) Over time my palate has matured and developed and my new like of Whisky eventually spread to Rum, Cognac, Gin and pretty much anything other than Vodka! In time I've started to pick up on those nuances and hints of flavor, but it's a slow process. I even started enjoying red wine, despite previously thinking it was awful.

It's the same with Cigars, I've been smoking 5 years or more now (though I'm a fairly casual smoker, only knocking back a handful a week in the summer and barely smoking in the winter, as I just don't enjoy it so much.) I still wouldn't consider my palate anywhere fully developed. I just enjoy relaxing with a smoke and very often it'll just hit me, or remind me of something random.

I know your all right I was just having a hissie fit last night, few other things getting to me. The past 2 smoked ive smoked outside at night so in a way have been rushed. I'm now sat in the car listening to music with a nice montecristo and really enjoying it again.

I I think your right I'm trying too hard and not enjoying it for what it is.. I shan't be giving up yet.

Like I said chico....mood and weather!

Now, in addition to all the elements in the art of puro appreciation, and contrary to the "herf" suggested by another, I find that to truly enjoy a puro to it's fullest, it's best done under conditions that won't interfere and/or distract from fully focusing on the smoking experience. At most, pair the puro with a fine beverage, relaxing music, and perhaps a good book. This will create the best atmosphere to enhance your smoking experience.

Of course, herfs are a ton of fun, especially with the likes of the lads on this forum....well, with a few exceptions, but a herf is NOT the best environment for truly savoring the puro. Don't ask me why, but when two or more like-minded lads gather at the local watering hole, they are inclined to talk, laugh and get merry - all of which adversly impact your capacity to focus on the puro.

                    Color me blue...

                    Perro, el Perro

Haha! I like to stare at the birds when I'm herfing!

Agreed TJ, but for someone who is sure they are doing everything right. For someone struggling, a bit of one to one time with someone with a little experience could be valuable.

Finished work and really wanting a cigar lol. Wish I could have them indoors, be nice watching a good film on the recliner after a good dinner and drink.

Only got 2 left and not a lot of money at the moment . Can anyone recommend any of these "cheap Cuban packs" like Jose L P? I know they have like a pack of 5 for ?32 or so or are they not worth it? Not really looking for a special occasion cigar as I don't have many special occasions but just something I can smoke when I want to or when I want to relax.

I really liked the montecristo no 2 so what about the montecristo cigarillos they do? Pack of 10 for ?10 or are they more like cafe creme and hamlet as I found them disgusting.

The jlp and the quinteros are nice reasonable Cubans for a cheaper smoke

I'll have a look at them. Keep thinking about the montecristo. The smell while lighting it was indescribable, lovely.
