Nothing to be honest. I would not worry about opening to refresh the air in them as it will serve no purpose. Only difference I see is you get 2 for less than half the cost of a humi jarOriginally posted by allawy View Post

Agreed, aged jars of cigars sell for fortunes with the seals intact, so I don't see why it would then be necessary to "air" the sticks in a normal storage jar/Tupperdor.Originally posted by rascal View PostNothing to be honest. You don't really, you just need to vent the gasses out occasionally .... which I'm doing with my KILNER this morning.Originally posted by rascal View PostWhy do you need circulation?
You can get glass Kilner jars easily big enough for Churchills in Wilkinsons, and for far less than the plastic Amazon one shown in this Thread (the Tesco own brand should be just as good). The come with instructions which amount only to rinsing the jar and rubber seal before using .... after that nothing. Initially I used a Bovida, but found that even a 65? was too much for the confined, airtight space, now I use nothing other than two cedar dividers from regular boxes, though I even doubt they do anything other than make the jar smell nice.If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Just the same really. Cigar jars have been around a hundred years or so, but they weren't collectors items then just a convienient way of storing cigars. The CC ones do have a little humidifier in the lid.Originally posted by PeeJay View PostSo how does that apply to the sealed jars that Budgie mentioned?
Same as for boxes, Seals Intact is a collectors preference, a bit like Beano in uncreased and unread condition. If you want to, you can.

Well, you and I would say they do because you and I would want to smoke them .... but collectors collect, and for them an unopened item has a greater value.Originally posted by PeeJay View PostBut do they not need venting occasionally then?
Mitch when he sells sealed items at Auction has no remit to unseal them. They sell at their perceived value, and no one want's to find out if they have smokeable vintage cigars or one dead tobacco beetle inside. If you want to, you can.

Double check that one. I think he was on here in person and told a different and very interesting story. I think the thread was titled auction

But tippex these things you would agree with cigars age better in tubos cigars age better in cabs than dress boxes. The main reason is the cut down of airflow/exchange. Yes I think you should open a jar once in a while every 3-5 years sounds sufficient to meOriginally posted by tippexx View PostWell, you and I would say they do because you and I would want to smoke them .... but collectors collect, and for them an unopened item has a greater value.
