Hi everyone, I'm a new member and just wanted to say hello and ask a question or two.

I've been an occasional cigar smoker for years and don't have the experience you guys have, but I eventually found the smoke a like best, which is the Montecristo Petit Tubos.

Now up until the end of last year I only purchased singles, triples or very occasionally a pack of 5. I did find my way to MC No4's but found them intermittent in flavour and someone suggested the Petit Tubos version, which I now prefer.

For Christmas my wife gave me a box of 10 Petit Tubos (From Cigar World) and I was/am delighted!!! But I have noticed that on the bottom of the sealed box it says Oct 09, which I presume is the manufacture date.

So my question is..... is this OK or should I return them and ask for a box from a newer batch ?

I have tried to find a definitive answer to this question, but to be honest I'm still confused

Any help or advice from the experts would be great...

It should be. A 5 year old box of cigars would [if stored correctly) be worth around 10-30% [more] of its original value. I've only had some petit tubos from 2011 which are significantly better (more development, less strength, good complexity) than any new Montecristo No. 4 or Petit Tubos.

I would consider the fact [that you got a 2009 box rather than a 2014 box] a very lucky draw!

However, just one thing: Do keep in mind that you cannot discuss retailers OUTSIDE of the UK on this forum. No mentions on where you got anything anywhere! Other than a few simple rules here, please enjoy learning and babbling on this forum (mostly babbling)

Carl, the older the better usually, if they have been stored properly. Its not the sell by date.

I assume you mean 110-130% as aged stock attracts a premium, also as far as I know he can say where he got them from because he bought them over there i.e I can say I went to Germeny and bought from LCDH berlin but couldn't say buy from (........).com. Carl five years of age is great don't send them back. Some people do prefer young stock but most prefer at least a couple of years. Try one and see if you notice a difference

Yes. 110-130% (or 10-30% more). My mistake on that maths error.

Fair on the second part. I just... er... recognise the name

A big thank-you to Butternutsquashpie, PeeJay, Sligub and CJ121 for your thoughts....its sounds like I was lucky or rather my wife was with the order, and I am really happy too... as it means I can open the box and smoke one tomorrow evening !

I presume if I keep them in the metal tubes, within the original box, in my cellar (which is dry) they should keep ok for a few months. I ask as I don't have a Humidor but I did order a digital humidity gauge (thanks to a recommendation on here ) that ill use to check the cellar is OK and as we have various rooms down there I hope one will be about 60%.

                Hi and welcome.
Your best and easiest solution would be a good quality food storage box ( click lock) and a bovida pouch. Obviously keep them in the tubes in the 'tupperdor'. Open the lid to refresh the air occasionally and your sticks will be lovely to smoke at your leisure.

                  Great Idea, thank-you Tucky

                  Tupperdor it is then...

Luck of the draw there mate. The older the better (if they were stored right which they more than likely were). It's like wine, it gets better with age.

                    Oh and welcome

                      Knewbee Onboard?

                      Welcome to the UKCF show.

Now, I suspect you may be pullin' the UKCF's collective leg with the aging question.

But just in case I'm wrong, Generally speaking and as others have noted, the older the better if stored in proper puro conditions.

Sounds like you got a good deal there. I'd say as you live in Germany you can get a good deal on a humidor as I can think of at least two good makers there. Humidoro from dusseldorf has a good selection. If you like montecristo you might like the peti edmundo.
