It's never an exact science. One draw every minute is not a safe baseline, either. Just keep smoking until you can get your own formula and you will establish a second sense for this.
Generally, the thinner the stick, the less cooldown it requires (common sense: bigger hot thing stays hot longer than a smaller hot thing). But this varies wildly with however the cigar is blended along with the storage conditions and age and a wild array of factors.
ON TOP OF IT ALL. What the hell is a puff anyways? Would you puff on a DT the same was as a Robusto? I sometimes take 2 or 4 consecutive puffs within 3 seconds with some cigars. Does that count as a puff? Everything is gauged in the moment.
I remember my first review on this forum (search up it!) where I mentioned a cooldown of 10 seconds. Got chewed out by the late Puff Scotty on puffing so often but it was just a guess. It'll be very hard to tell how long you're waiting before each puff. But you'll know when enough is enough or not enough.
Another personal story includes me smoking VERY good cigars. My last one was an OR (2003) Trinidad Robusto Extra. Terrible burn and seems to be lightly packed at the foot. I just kept going back for more and puffing extremely well. I couldn't stand my mouth to be devoid of such heavenly smoke. It was an absolutely FANTASTIC cigar. Then you can tell if you're puffing too quickly because the wrapper burns quicker than the filler and you're left with a sharp cigar when you tap the ash off.
Do I ever regret smoking that cigar too quickly? Nope. I just purge it once and continue on puffing the scents.
I don't have a formula for it. It's supposed to be natural and different for every cigar you smoke.
Don't make a Clockwork Orange.
