  • Humidor Violated

I discovered today a most unfortunate violation of my humidor, due to my wife having placed in it a cigar that had once been lit, smoked for a few minutes and abandoned. The reason for the abandoning is of little consequence when considering the crime of tainting my humidor and it's contents with the foul smell of stale burnt cigar. Fortunately, there are only three sticks in my humidor, so no damage of any great consequence. Unfortunately, the wonderful aroma of fine tobacco my humidor once had has been replaced with that of an ashtray.
The lesser crime of abandoning the cigar (Siglo III - gets worse doesn't it?) was due to my folly in offering it to a much greater fool I thought would appreciate such finery.
    Lessons learned:
1 - Don't offer fine Cuban cigars to fools lest you be like him.
2 - Keep your humidor out of the reach of women, children and anyone else failing to appreciate the sanctity of such a box.
3 - Never assume that your overt and deliberate honouring of your humidor is understood as anything but vain fanaticism by women, children and fools. They cannot, and will not, know respect for cigars through association.

      I remember that thread, actually.

Same thing last time... Just air it out with newspaper/bakingsoda/coffee grinds/charcoal, etc.
You get a modest amount of smoke if you open your humidor in a smoking lounge. It really doesn't affect the cigar THAT much considering any cigar will smell like that 2 minutes into lighting it.

I feel for you mate, sounds like it could have been worse though.
Hopefully the smell goes like Sean's did.

Jizza, what planet are you on? A gone out and sitting cigar smells nothing like a burning puro.

What a bugger ay, although nothing malicious
A lot of airing as mentioned, fill back up over time and I'm sure that sweet puro whiff shall return to your luurve nest once again

            That's not what I meant.

Though... some Gurkhas, RPs, etc smell like old burnt out cigars.

How to Protect the Family Puros!

Haha! I suspect we all, at some time or another, learn to discriminate between those we offer a fine puro and those who fall in the NC category. I've reported on my own experiences around these parts before so I won't go into it again, but let me just suggest investing in a unit that includes a lock.

I never leave don TJ's massive unit unlocked whenever I'm not around. I even turn down the interior lighting as not to draw attention to the massive unit.

                    But that's just me!

Sod a lockable humidor, I think we all deserve a study with a lock on the door. Entire length of one wall as a humidor with interior lights, top shelved reserved for displaying millennium jars and limited edition numbered cabs. The other wall book shelves with important looking leather bound volumes and small bar in the corner. Big desk and large leather chair. Roaring open fire with a step in front of it to stand with one foot on it admiring the portrait hanging above it of ourselves looking like something out of scarface. Its not asking for much is it?

Haha! It's been awhile since I posted a don TJ tip, but here we go...

Don TJ's Tip No. 23: "Never leave a spent puro lying about."

In other words, after allowing your best friend, the almighty puro, to pass away, gently remove it from from your "Big Stinky" ashtry and respectively place it somewhere where it can rest in peace. For me, that's a near-by wooded area.

Yes indeed, but those books must be much more than important in appearance only. Their content must also be such that, in reading them, the mind is furnished with sound knowledge.

Carried out a quick survey of my humidor today and quite happy the ashtray smell is disappearing.
