I discovered today a most unfortunate violation of my humidor, due to my wife having placed in it a cigar that had once been lit, smoked for a few minutes and abandoned. The reason for the abandoning is of little consequence when considering the crime of tainting my humidor and it's contents with the foul smell of stale burnt cigar. Fortunately, there are only three sticks in my humidor, so no damage of any great consequence. Unfortunately, the wonderful aroma of fine tobacco my humidor once had has been replaced with that of an ashtray.
The lesser crime of abandoning the cigar (Siglo III - gets worse doesn't it?) was due to my folly in offering it to a much greater fool I thought would appreciate such finery.
Lessons learned:
1 - Don't offer fine Cuban cigars to fools lest you be like him.
2 - Keep your humidor out of the reach of women, children and anyone else failing to appreciate the sanctity of such a box.
3 - Never assume that your overt and deliberate honouring of your humidor is understood as anything but vain fanaticism by women, children and fools. They cannot, and will not, know respect for cigars through association.
