Screw the box codes! Give me the name of the torcedore and I'm a happy how-you-say "camper!"

Now ol' don TJ had his own personal torcedore somewhere in the caribbean - se?or Jesus Lara Perez - who rolled the best puros this side of the border. Unfortunately, the exact whereabouts of se?or Perez was lost when el don left on his definitive journey into the unknown!

Nah, you're good, you just got temporarily swept up into the TJ reality, the effects will soon wear off.

All things being equal ... When cigar shopping ... Looking through a stack of say 50 boxes of upmann pc's ... I will buy the oldest ones ... Factory codes mean little to me tho .

The way i see it you might agree or disagree on this one is we buy a box of say D4S with a certain year and code on the box might be the only one
in the shop with that year and code other boxes might be same year but different code and the whole box of cigars smoke realy nice
where would you start to find another box is hunters and frankau going to go through their whole stack to find another box or two to send to the retailer
            for a customer
could be wrong but i don't think they would .Thats why i'm happy to stick with the years on the boxes rather than codes.

No guarantee the tobacconist is going to have more boxes with same codes maybe same year
No 2 boxes are going to smoke the same of what i've heard and read just enjoy the hobby without the stress of finding codes and dates
all depends what the supplier sends you.
See Tony, what you have is an opinion. Your opinion is that it is a waste of life / time to focus on the box codes of the Havana cigars we are duly smoking. As with it being an opinion, you can be right and wrong at the same time. People may agree or disagree. I like your opinion, but I do look at the back of every single box I purchase prior to inspecting the contents and adding onto my spreadsheet.

If I am paying ?10-?40 per cigar experience, I like to keep notes about the (hopeful) enjoyable Havana. I do this because you are exactly right in that one smoke can be an extreme experience, even within the same box of cigars. Do I sweat it when it is a bad experience, no, I just put it down to the roll of a dice.

There is a great thread created by the one and only Mr. Tippexx which starts with years around the 2000 in which there was a massive increase order by Fidel, which could never be met....(I think more of a culmination of factors, but hey ho) But, as the thread goes to show, not all cigars were poor over this period. In fact, some of the cigars produced around this time were the best, ever. It is a great read into the World of what is good & bad. Thoroughly enjoyable mate

Chico...you ARE special! And just for you, I'll see what I can do to get that dastardly Ray f'ing Jay to write some jokes that involve you...okay cha-cha? But don't hold your breath! (Get it? No? . See the next quote.)

Truth to the puros? Absolutely, mi amigo. Still have a few from years past resting about in the don's massive unit. Pictures were posted in the past.

Going to have to have another read of that thread. I thought I had read it through but never got to the part where some of the cigars from that era are good.

                            Ressurected from the ashes

I just typed a long winded argument and then my internet gave out when I pressed post.
I have no will to retype it so I apologise if it sounds dry and there are no emoticons...

Box dates = how old they are. This is one of the most important things in gauging cigars.
Box codes = where they're rolled. maximise the chances of a good box of cigars.

They are absolutely not going to smoke the same. Have you tried to hunt down a good box of Montecristo 2s or Partagas D4s? My word do I have to wad through some shite... In fact, I've just more or less given up on these cigars. I have had one good D4 in my life with the rest being absolutely atrocious. I keep hearing of these good Montecristo 2s but I have never found one...
Box codes are not guarantees. But they are essentially crucial in trying to find some good cigars out of a lot of the mass produced ones. I smoke Siglo IIIs as a baseline because they are underproduced yet always available. They're rolled in provincial factories with a simple blend and are amazing smokes all of the time. La Gloria Cubana No. 2s are always rolled in the Partagas factory. I don't need to chase these around.
Now on a box of Cohiba Esplendidos, how can I enjoy the hobby if I buy a box of $600 churchills without some guarantee that some love went into them? How can I enjoy the hobby like that blindly buying what only seems good?

Absolutely not. Take the Esplendido example. El Laguito rolls 15 boxes. Sends 5 to Canada, 5 to the UK, and 5 to Switzerland. I just happen to visit these countries and am on an Esplendido binge.
I buy all 15 boxes home and examine them. What will I find?

There is no way there will be noticeable differences between these suppliers/distributors.

of your favorite cubans with a certain year and code see what their reply is.

Perhaps you just don't like those sticks? I haven't had a bad Monte 2 and at least one was a landmark stick. And I have had one particularly bad D4, a couple average ones and some good ones.
