I'd be intrested to know what the atraction is about cigar auctions, people spend big money on boxes of cigars some go in the hundreds
and some in the thousands of pounds. The other thing is they don't know how the cigars are going to taste when smoked
the other thing is these boxes they bid for are they to smoke themselves or put away in the hope they can sell them on again and make a profit.

The sane as any auction, it's a chance to get something they normally wouldn't have a chance of getting. There's a couple sticks I would bid big bucks on if they Show up. On the other thing it's completely down to individual circumstances.

Edit: I personally buy cigars to smoke and detest the idea of buying to hoard and cash in for a profit. When I come to the end of my time I would rather give away or sell at cost than cash in from my BOTL.

There have always been rich guys who have chosen to buy vintage cigars & the one's ones that actually smoke them do get a taste for them & then wnat to buy more. Yes, it's always a gamble but a box of Henry Clays from the 50's is probably going to be similar to another box of the same age (to my mind it's more an interesting smoke because of the history than the flavour and that wouldn't make me buy a whole box. We all take a gamble when we buy a box even when as I did with the Greecos & actually tried on before going back to take a full box, the cigars will be slightly different & there's always a chance of a duff one in there. It's just these guys do it on a more expensive scale but I guess they can afford to write off an occasional duff box of old smokes.
Occasionally I have found a truly wonderful 40-50yo cigar & that make sit worth it for me, picking up a few singles & pairs as I do.

Iv'e heard where they can they try and buy 2 boxes of the same cigars one to smoke one to sell on and make a profit
then the profit gets smoked with their top cigars, wether theres any truth in that or not can't say.

Ditto, I don't have anything I wouldn't smoke. If I were to invest in anything it would probably be port or wine.

There is nothing I wouldn't drink or smoke[emoji106]however makes sense if you can afford it as your smoking and drinking becomes a freebie if done correctly

I suppose if you've got the spare cash its as good an investment as any quiet a niche market and no doubt the people putting cigars away to age love them and are obsessed with their hobby as we are ,they are just investing money and playing the market just as property investers, stocks and shares do it just happens to be their past time as well . Good on em nice little pension really all you botl in your twenties should be doing the same
