  • Any suggestions for a first smoke?

    Hi all,

In London this weekend and looking for your expert opinion on what cigar to choose for my first smoke, hopefully a memorable experience and one of many to come!

    Thanks all

Will you be smoking inside or out as makes a huge difference this time of year but a cohiba siglo 1 wouldn't be a bad start

      Hi D,

Please to meet you. Going on how it worked for me I would say nothing too fancy as it will take a month or so to get your technique sorted and that will change enjoyment a lot. Also once you get into the higher end stuff the budget ones don't taste like they used to as enjoy them while you can.

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy what ever you choose for your first smoke, as ultimately that's what it is. Your choice depending on your taste, no saying what I like you will and vice versa so try em all!

H.Upmann Half Corona. From my limited experience: short smoke for first cigar would be better. It is not too strong, and very tasty. It is not expensive cigar as well.
        Three Laws are:
        1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
        2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
        3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Welcome, some good Info already. I would say go for something smallish too unless you inside in the warm and have a lot of spare time.

Have you ever smoked anything at all?

I do think the H Upmann Half Corona is a great call, perhaps a Trinidad Reyes?

Big fan of the HUHC here so I would agree with that 100%!

Thanks for the recommendations gents, sounds like the H Upmann Half Corona it is! It will be outdoors and first cigar, I've not smoked at all before.

Don't inhale, and try and read up on what your going to need and what to do. It's not hard but just be prepared... Oh and perhaps have a trial run before the evening?

Perhaps this is a good thread to post a complete beginner walkthrough! I'm at work at the no but Will try and put something together when I get home later.

Perhaps these guys Will be kind enough to start putting in some Info and we can edit it into a walkthrough later.

                  Have fun!

Thanks Marc, all sounds very sensible, wouldn't have known not to inhale. I'll let you know how I get on!

A beginners guide in the form of our mistakes we made when we first started.

                      Educational and entertaining in one

Do not light it like a cigeratte!

Hold it in your hand and rotate over the flame. If it needs a helping hand then take it away and blow on it not suck through it.

I have many, many more mistakes I made but if we try and keep it to one each means there is stories left for other people rather than telling the same one over and over?

If you inhale you probably won't want a second one because you might turn green. Unfortunately you might do it by accident while getting used to how much pressure to apply when sucking. The answer is much less than you probably think.

Cut below the cap! If you cut to far in to the cigar it will unravel in your mouth and that is no fun!

For a beginner, and as a short smoke, I'd recommend a Montecristo Open Junior. Easy light smoke, full of montecristo flavour. Very nice easy smoke.
Another nice smoke for a newbie, that has the size and build of a heavyweight, but mild and mellow would be a Romeo Juliet Wide Churchill.

Whatever you decide, don't rush your smoke, savour and enjoy yourself

Hoyo de Monterey Epicure No 2 or a Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill would be my recommendations.

Neither are overly large, both mild but with nice, distinct flavours.
