A bad/crooked/tunnel burn for a cigar ... Annoys me as much as anybody .

but consider this ... My '02 allones mille fleurs ... All of them Burn at a 45 degree angle not to mention they look like they were rolled by an 8 year old ... Yet they are sooooo good ... Blind tasting I would swear they were early el's . For this I will put up with a crappy burn .

In terms of the 'exploding' sticks in the thread, pace of smoking will have a big impact upon this IMO. Slow down, easy draws and going gently will improve this kind of problem. Cool weather is not a friend in these situations.

Bad blending is certainly a reason for crappy burn issues. Badly kept cigars tend to have the problem throughout the cigar. In other words the whole cigar would burn slowly and be hard to keep lot of over humidified and would be harsh and fast burning if under humidified. So with that theory in mind Id go with Bag Boy. Of course I am only using an educated guess here. It could just as easily be both issues.
I guess if you had your cigar next to the humidification device it could be wetter in one side, hence the one and only use for a dog rocket, buffer.

Interesting theory, amigo. Let me offer another - The consistency and evenness of the burn is affected by the BLEND of the puro.

Now, as we all know....not all puro leaves burn at the same rate, which is why the blend is so important.

I submit for you consideration, the possibility that a "bad blend" will cause the puro to burn uneven, better known as the canoe and/or tunnel effect.

At least, that's what I read on the interwebs.....so it must be true!!!

Good point, amigo. A nice, even light is important to prevent uneven or how-you-say "tunneling."

When I'm with youngsters who are new to the fine art of smoking puros, I resist offering too much guidance - best to let 'em learn from their own experience and mistakes - but I always explain the importance of getting an even light. After the initial light, I ask them to take the puro out of their pie holes and blow on the foot to ensure the entire foot is glowing before smoking. Often second and third attempts are necessary.

The next step in preventing an uneven burn is to occasionally rotate the puro as you smoke it.

Next week: How to avoid "hot boxing" your fine puros. Bone Up!

Haha! It's more fun to watch a knewbee light a puro like a fag and whine about the burn

I think I did put the jet flame to it, but the cigar wrapper kinda swelled up, and refused to burn as normal…
Could be trapped humidity… I noticed the punch band stuck on pretty firmly… or some other underlying cause...

Tunneling Si, you coud try run a match or lighter around the edge of the wrapper to get it going again, wonder what them bands are doing to that section of wrapper though...

My Punch RE 2011 have got two bands. I've noticed for a second time when the burn line reaches the punch band (the band closest to the head) the burn line seems to stop? The smoking experience ends and it's as if the cigar is burning still, but only on the inside, not the out, if that makes sense.
