Just drill a hole in the house wall and fit an outdoor socket, its got to be better than leaving the window open in the winter

This is where my electricity knowledge is still developing so bear with me, or anyone more knowledgeable please pipe in.

Say you were running a full 1500w on a 12v system, then that's 125amps. (You won't be running all of this constantly.)

So a 125Ah battery fully charged will last an hour.

To calculate the size of your solar panels you really need to know more about your usage. You work out how many hours you will be using your appliances and how much wattage they take.... This gives you your "Wh" figure, you will want a Solar array or combination array Solar/Wind which provides around 15-20% more Watts per hour than you will consume to stay on top.

But that's more critical if you were in there all day every day. If it's a shed that your going into for an hour here and there then you can probably cut down slightly on you input wattage.

So you need to buy a bigger battery than the one from my example then.... I'm just talking him through the logistics of such a system.

A 500Ah battery would last four times longer than example above.....

A 1000Ah eight time's and so on and so on.

There are people in the world who live off these systems 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You just need to build a system capable of outputting to your requirements.

Oh and insulation is your friend, a well insulated shed will retain the warmth from your heater for much longer.

You might find this article interesting. It is aimed at campers but it is the same principle. It discusses sizes of system and how much each appliance needs.
Portable 12 Volts renewable electricity generation kits, for camping and caravans, are becoming increasingly popular. You needn't be limited to the mains.
