Just noticed you guys talking about outdoor heating - my company sells infrared patio heaters. Don't normally do any plugging but couldn't resist here:
The ones that are useful outside are the Aspect range at the bottom.
Infrared is a lot more efficient than a standard electric heater, because it heats surfaces - like your skin and clothes, rather than the air around you. It means you are concentrating the heat over a smaller area and giving the heat a chance to have an effect before disappearing into the stratosphere!
A toaster oven.
They're essentially minature ovens that can do anything an oven does. Heats from the bottom and top with electrical elements up to 225C. I get them used and crusty online for a tenner and use it to heat my winter cigar garden.
That's scary! The ones on the site only heat what the infrared hits so if its you on the other side of the room you're toast then
The sun heats using infrared, it is perfectly safe. If you touch the element it will burn you, just like any heater, but other than that you will be fine. Its actually safer than being warmed by the sun because there is no UV, and because they don't glow like standard electric heaters they are safer for your eyes.
Yes – 100% safeInfrared radiation is the reason you feel the warmth of the sun on your face even in the midst of winter. The radiation emitted is on the safe end of the electromagnetic spectrum, (next to the red bit of visible light). As the unit is situated on the ceiling it can be less dangerous for children than a burning hot radiator in an easy to reach place.
Its all EU certified for safety etc. There's some very strict regs on electrical appliances!
