  • Are we paying for the name

Always been curious about the cohiba brand are we paying for the name or the quality of the cigars.
I keep hearing the same thing such as better cigars out there for the money we pay for a cohiba.
Just read a member had a siglo V1 today and wasen't that impressed with it.

All I can add is that the two BHK 52s that I smoked tasted wonderful but burned terribly. That said the Lanceros I've smoked have been excellent.

          Smoke em if ya gottem.
I ditched the SIG, despite what it cost. If you bought an expensive bottle of wine and didn't like it, would you carry on drinking just because it was expensive? Or would you ditch it and move onto something you like? I'd ditch every time.

It's part and parcel of smoking I guess. Finding out your likes and dislikes. Not everyone is going to enjoy the exact same things. So yeah, I would ditch if I didn't like.

I'm no expert, but I think it's like anything where personal taste is the driving factor. You're the ultimate judge of whether there is a 'better cigar out there for the money'. I guess there are a lot of people who have, over the years, rated Cohibas really highly and so they have a deserved reputation on that basis alone. That means there is a reasonably strong likelihood that people will enjoy them, but that's not the same as saying everyone will enjoy them, or rate them as highly, or consider them 'good value'. I'm a big believer in respecting everyone's individual taste - smoke Cohibas because you really enjoy them and if, for you personally, the enjoyment more than offsets the price you pay. Don't smoke them because you want to be seen with a Cohiba band in your hand.

Thanks - I hate the idea of anyone being told what they 'should' enjoy. I've read stuff by a few people saying that Cohibas aren't all they're cracked up to be or that Cubans in general are over-rated, but I'd rather find out for myself. I guess I'd take notice if a few people said a cigar, beer, wine, etc., was really crap, but it would have to be pretty convincing.

I think it's a bit of both to be honest. They've got the reputation as being THE premium cuban brand, some of that is from their quality and some of it is from being associated with Castro. Like undercover said though if you enjoy the flavour profile and you feel it's worth it then yes it's worth it.

Taste is like beauty, all in the eye (tongue) of the beholder. Personally I enjoy them but not as much as paying the premium. I still only smoked 1 of them when in Cuba because they where still relatively expensive.

If you listened to me the 3 times I told you, you'll know that has nothing to do with Cohiba!
