Retrohaling is a technique that we practice and recommend so that people can experience the broadest range of flavors and sensations from their cigars. This ...

it may get painful a few of the first times but like many things with smoke (quiet Mo. not that kind!), you just get used to it. Then it becomes pleasant.
Now that's just blurred the issue for us noobs even further, most 'wisdom' says hand rolled cigars should be retrohaled, butters wisdom now says its pointless with most.....I'm gonna go back to crack much less complicated

first rule of cigars: there are no rules.
          addendum: only rough guidelines

most people enjoy cigars without even knowing of the existance of retrohaling. so why fix if it isn't broken?
some people say some cigars shan't even be smoked without retrohaling. Why go into cigars if you don't retrohale?

i smoked an ERdM Lunch Club from 05 today. Retrohale was too harsh to detect anything. i smoked a RyJ Petit Julieta yesterday. Retrohale helped me find flavours i couldn't.

it's hard to strafe the middle line without complications and contradictions. But that's where I stand. You're also twisting my words when you mention 'most' cigars aren't worthy of retrohale

I'll retrohale a few times when smoking a cigar for a review as I think that monkey et al are spot on when they say that you can pick up a lot more of the cigars nuances and development using the technique. However, it's only occasionally, and I rarely do it when I'm smoking purely for myself. It's just that I don't enjoy it hugely (though sometimes there is a "wow" moment as a result). So... I'm pretty much towing the general line: good for tasting, but if you don't like it, don't do it - smoking is about enjoyment, after-all, not dogmatically following a set list of rules.

Mate I fully accept I'm yanking your chain a little and I know taste is subjective anyways, what you enjoy retrohailing I may not and vice versa......however I'm a little confused how I'm twisting your words exactly. You clearly said 'most' I quoted 'most' sounds like fair cop to me.

See, the first time i commented, i was thinking most cigars (CCs+NCs)

second time i commented, i had already described my retrohaling experience with my last two cuban cigars. i sometimes forget about the existence of Non-Cuban cigars when discussin nuances. This is why i thought i said something different. My mind goes a mile a minute sometimes (quiet mo. i dont' need crack)

But anyways, to fix that i'll say this: retrohaling non cubans have been a futile way to burn my eyes and nose. never again on a Nicaraguan.

Since thus far I smoke more NC than CC and tbh more often then not find a retrohail harsh I'm now very excited to try a retro on the birthday cohiba.
