  • Humidor keeping strange humidity...

I decided to go over to bovenda packs instead of the old plastic trays full of 'oasis' type stuff. Before I made the change the humidity was bang on 65%.
I bought 75% packs as I wanted to run the box up a bit for the summer and some of the Cigars seemed a bit dry to be honest.
Since putting the packs in and removing the trays it's dropped to 50%....

    Don't understand it!?

My small Hillwood has only 1 pack in and is bang on 75%.

The big humidor has 9 packs in and won't go above 50%

There are probably 300 sticks in it btw.

    Any clues Gents?

Do the cigars still seem dry? I don't know anything about Boveda packs but I would suggest RH beads if you have 300 cigars in the humidor. 9 packs would work out at a bit of dosh in the long run, and I have never heard anything bad happen with the beads.#

Sorry I can't shed any insight

sounds like a seal problem or maybe seasoning...
how did you season the humidor?

If you trust the seasoning, maybe it's the packs.
how hard are the bovedas (grab them and feel them around)?

What size is it james, by the sounds of the oasis foam trays I am thinking its a Monarca or something similar?

If it is you are going to need about 40 boveda packs in there

40 packs! It's a six drawer one... Seal may not be great but it's been ok with the trays.

              If I put 40 in I won't have any room for,the cigars

              Packs feel liquid btw

                I was thinking41Dk4XMGFQL._SY355_.jpg

Only other thing I can think is the batterys in your hygrometer giving you a false reading cause cause its got to be 50 in your house at this time of year?

Personally I would have one in each draw.

                      was thinking that, too.

James, do you use the same hygrometer for both humis? like shuffle them around every week or two?
if you use them separately, just switch hygrometers between the two humis and report back!

There are 2 in each drawer. I'm going to swop hydrometers about. Will report back. J

Well having swopped about the meters...it's bang on 80%. The meter in the front of the cabinet has got stuck I think. Gave it a whack and it's creeping up now. Can you get this little meters as spare parts?

yes cgars, ebay, most cigar shops. I would recommend you get a good digital one and leave the analogue one in there for show.
