Whatever chance of Obama ending it was lost over the North Korean ship last year.

I think the embargo will end soon(ish) - the communist government just doesn't seem as strong as it used to be and capitalism is starting to find its way in. I do agree that Castro will need to at least loose all influence before anything is likely to happen.

I do hope we won't see a reduction in quality control when the embargo is lifted though, but I suspect there will be

For anyone interested there was an interesting documentary on the BBC last year on changes and capitalism in Cuba

I think when the USA embargo ends, prices will start creeping up and quality will deteriorate to keep up with the extra demand from what must be one of the largest single markets in the world.

I could be wrong as my understanding is limited but I understand (in the simplest sense) the embargo issue is mainly dominated by the strength of the anti-Castro ex-pat vote in Florida.

In other words if you want to win Florida you need to be pro-embargo.

52 States in the Union Monk, 51 of them probably couldn't care less about the Embargo ..... and as for Florida, has any politician since George Washington ever told the electorate the real truth?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Well, yes..you could be wrong, senor monkeyboy and yes, your understanding is likely limited, but you happen to be correct, as was noted by el Perro several posts ago.

Names Perro, el Perro, and redundency has no place on this forum.

Haha! It might be considered a so-called "redundent" post, if anyone ever bothered to READ your posts.

Exactally, so no votes to be won but a state to be lost. No decision for the politicians.

(Ahem!) It's a common error, RJ. I believe one of the recent cadidates for Presidente made the same mistake.
