  • Unlucky with Partagas?

    Guys...

It has been a while since I posted, as you will know I am new to Cigars...And much time as well as money has been spent over the last year puffing my way through various variouses....

Most recently I have began to find my likes and understand my tastes...One of these is Partagas - Since I started Cigars I have enjoyed them, but seemingly have been seriously unlucky.

In Liverpool I picked up a box of 10 Partagas P2's after buying and enjoying a Tubed version in Dublin - All but one smoked very badly, they either constantly needed relight or were hollow in the middle off and on and I couldnt get any draw...The last one from the box was really good, but by then my faith had taken a nosedive...

I put this down to a bad box, and christmas arrived...Another 10 of P2's, box of shorts and D4's.....

Every Short has been top notch, every P2 has been a disaster, and just last night I fired up the first D4 which also needed constant relighting...

After this debacle began away back in 2013, I blamed humidity, but NO - Because anything else in there, some bought the same time is never a problem...I have smoked Siglo IV's...Robustos, RYJ's, Bolivar BF's etc, etc without a problem...

Have I just been plain unlucky with theese P2's and D4's...I really enjoy Partagas...But these are really taking the wind from my sails!

    You'll Never Walk Alone!

Hang in there, amigo. There are many reasons that may be the cause of your bad experience with these puros - from too wet behind the ears to just plain bad stick.

Keep the faith, brother...and keep on puffin'!

    That's what I'd do, anyway.

I have only ever smoked a handful of d4's and had no issues at all with them as TJ said you might have just been unlucky mate

I'm not a Partagas fan myself so can't comment on the larger cigars. I did have a box of shorts (that's PARTAGAS shorts in case TJ was wondering!) and they smoked well construction wise, though I prefer a more mild cigar myself.

Taking a guess it sounds to me as if they were stored poorly for some time before you got your hands on them. And as TJ has said you just got unlucky with some poorly constructed cigars. I suspect poor storage because they all were tight until the last one. How long had you kept that box in your humi before you started smoking them?

Because if I were a betting man I'd say that by the time you'd got to the last one, by that time your cigar had recovered from it's former storage conditions.

A bit like giving Gordon Ramsay ?170 for a crap meal only to be told the chef might be having a bad day or the ingredients had gone off .... but not to worry, come back tomorrow, spend another 170 quid and if you're really lucky you MIGHT get something halfway decent to eat, or perhaps the day after tomorrow if you keep trying.

Truth is, a crap meal would be sent back to the kitchen with a demand for your money back.

Why should you put up with rubbish from a so called luxury product when you wouldn't expect or get it from a pack of Benson and Hedges. The excuses we make for Cuban cigars are infuriating, ?17 per stick isn't cheap, these issues shouldn't happen and luck should really have nothing to do with anything.

Had boxes and boxes and boxes of D4s and P2s. Probably several dozen of the P2s. Never had problems like this.

Sounds like you've been immensely unlucky or something else is up.

On the flip side I have never enjoyed a D4 or a P2. Partagas are not for everyone.

Bloody hell that's unlucky! Any correlation between box dates/numbers? Have you spoken to the retailer?

I must admit I have found the D4 a little hit and miss, but where they have been good, they've been really good. I'm planning go pick up a box in Berlin next month so hopefully they'll be on song!

Overall I enjoy Partys, and have had no significant construction problems with them (none that I remember anyway!) so maybe you were just unlucky?

I agree with Tippex though that you shouldn't just accept a box of tent pegs after spending ?100s on them

I agree with Monks here....P2s and D4s have almost all been duds for me.....the 898v and the Shorts are a different matter: all excellent, never had a shite/plugged one. I think it must come down to the whole quantity over quality thing. They're so popular that loads get made but the quality might suffer....
